I mostly just lurk here lately.  March 5 is the 9th anniversary of
surgery to remove my prostate.   In January that year my first ever PSA
test at a routine physical came with a count of 45.5.  A six-needle
biopsy came back with 6's, 7's and an 8.  The bone scan that followed
showed everything clear.  At surgery the lymph nodes were clean.  PSA
was fine at quartely intervals until three years later.  Started on
Lupron (with Casodex for three years) and have had quartely Lupron
shots for 6 years now.  My PSA was still at <0.1 in January and I see
my urologist again in April.  There are side effects, but I will be 78
years old in June.  My wife and I enjoy travelling--went to Europe 3
times in 2002, once each in '03, and '04 and twice last year.  We plan
a trip to Russia this fall.  I've been retired since 1992.  I keep in
touch locally by having lunch out 5 days a week with friends.   I've
served for 40 years on the board of child care agency..  We have five
grown grandchildren, four great-grands with a new one due in about
three week.s

By any measure, Dick, I'd say you successfully beat the bastard.
Congratulations on a full life!

Congratulations, from one who has been fighting the beast for 5 1/2 years.
Hearing from you gives a lot of us encouragement. A lot of us started from
about the same place and are going down the same road, and hearing such a
success story is really uplifting.  Enjoy your trips, your family, and
thanks for posting.
