Since we find (unfortunately) new members and lurkers who post almost
every day...

One of the first things that we all recommend (I.P. is ESPECIALLY big on
this...and rightly so)...is to STUDY, STUDY and STUDY.

Read several books and learn as much as you can so that you can ask the
docs good questions.

I wanted to list the 'Big 4' books that we talk about.

Walsh seems to be the first we read...but then...there is no real order.

Just to help:

Dr. Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer (Paperback)

by Janet Farrar Worthington, Patrick C. Walsh

A Primer on Prostate Cancer: The Empowered Patient's Guide

by Stephen Strum, M.D.

Dr. Peter Scardino's Prostate Book: The Complete Guide to Overcoming
Prostate Cancer, Prostatitis and BPH --

by Peter Scardino, Judith Kelman; Hardcover

Prostate Cancer for Dummies

by Paul H. Lange, et al

I'd like to add that even the most obscure PC books -- and PC chapters
in many broader books -- I read revealed additional useful
decisionmaking information. I bought and read most of 10-12 PC books,
but read parts of at least that many more in bookstores and libraries,
not to mention dozens of websites and many threads here.

Sure it takes a lot of time, probably more than many people put into
choosing a car. (A CAR!) The payoff? I'm certain I made the best
decisions realistically possible FOR MY PRIORITIES AND MY CASE OF CANCER
regarding both my initial and adjuvant treatment options. I also gave my
medical team a few new insights into PC treatment, IMO justifying the
time I put into it.

Buy the Subaru and get on with the IMPORTANT decisions in life. '-)

And don't overlook Johns Hopkins' annual Prostate Cancer White Paper.
Order them from
http://www.hopkinsafter50.com/html/silos/prostate/index.php .
They're $25, but you can return them within 30 days if not satisfied.
They're densely packed with new information.

Thanks to I.P. for adding other sources of information.

And thanks also for his previous wonderful thoughts stressing how
important that exercise is to RP patients and to everyone in general.

Ron's list, adding Amazon prices and links, plus a few other books:

Dr. Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer (Paperback)
by Janet Farrar Worthington, Patrick C. Walsh  -- $11.53
http://tinyurl.com/ox4b9

A Primer on Prostate Cancer: The Empowered Patient's Guide
by Stephen Strum, M.D.   -- $19.79
http://tinyurl.com/q8tnq

Dr. Peter Scardino's Prostate Book:
The Complete Guide to Overcoming Prostate Cancer, Prostatitis and BPH --
by Peter Scardino, Judith Kelman; Hardcover -- $12.89
http://tinyurl.com/mzg4k

Prostate Cancer for Dummies
by Paul H. Lange, et al -- $14.95
http://tinyurl.com/nbxlp

Some others:

The China Study
T. Colin Campbell, PhD -- $11.53
http://tinyurl.com/qfyrb
(Based on a huge study comparing the health of Westerners and Asians,
Campbell says diet is a big factor in cancer. It's enough to put you off Big
Macs forever.)

Surviving Prostate Cancer without Surgery:
The New Gold Standard Treatment That Can Save Your Life and Lifestyle
Michael J. Dattoli, MD, Jennifer Cash and Donald Katenbach -- $12.89
(Published in 2005, it presents the case for brachy seed radiation.)
http://tinyurl.com/mczza

Surviviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery
Bradley Hennenfent, M.D. -- $13.57
http://tinyurl.com/lrpqd
(This has a stridently anti-RPP point of view, and is about 10 years old, so
should be read with caution. But it does raise every possible objection to
surgery, including some facts that surgeons may gloss over.)

100 Questions & Answers About Prostate Cancer
Pamela Ellsworth, MD, John Heaney, MD and Cliff Gill -- $16.95
http://tinyurl.com/lvt6p direct from the publisher. Not on Amazon, but
distributed as a 238-page freebie by TAP Pharmaceuticals.
(Basic, with no info that is not also in Walsh, Strum and Scardino, but
clear, simple and well illustrated.)

If you go to Amazon and click on any of the big-name books at the top of
this list, you will also see some other titles about PCa recommended by
Amazon or also purchased by those who bought the book you are looking at.
It's a good way to "window shop."

While we're on the topic of references, I have seen often URLs posted, but
have paid relatively little attention.  During the weekend of March 10-12, I
am going to hole up in some hotel (or cabin if they have Internet access)
and research my current condition.

Would y'all who have posted favorite sites please do so again?  From now on,
I think I'm going to copy them to a file.

Best thing I did was get a gmail address (almost 3 gb of storage) for
the PC topic.  Send links, pages, whatever to that address.
Searchable.

Great idea ... but it made me smile. I spent many week, maybe a couple
of months ... full time ... researching this $#!+, and I gotta do a lot
more if and when my PSA takes off again because I stopped short of RT.

Thanks, Dominic.

At first glance, it looks like some are duplicates, but at least one is not.

Thanks.
