We haven't heard recently from David S. or maybe I've missed his posts.
Is he (are you) still lurking?  I'd like to know how things are going
with the AMS 800.

hi dave - buttercup's dad is doing fine but is having trouble accessing
the newsgroups.

he's had me send him some of the posts of those who also had the AMS 800
installed.

he still has some leakage but have given him tips on how to get better
use of the unit.

i'll relay this post to him and get a response back to the newsgroup.

he also changed ISP recently, so he might be able to get back here
through them.

Hi Dave Perry!

First of all, thanks to Curtis for relaying your message.  I cannot
access newsgroups from work at all.  The IT department told me that
something is wrong with the registration of my ID on the network, but no one
seems to be able to fix it.  At home I have only been successful signing on
to Road Runner newsgroups on occasion.  Most of time, including yesterday, I
get an error message that it could not sign on the news server.  I have sent
two emails to Road Runner technical support, but no answer at all, although
I did receive the automated email acknowledgement, so I know they got my
message.  I figure they are having technical problems with the system and
have not been able to solve the problem, thus no response to me.

Anyway, my bad luck RRP wise has continued.  The first few weeks I had
some leakage, but was able to just use a panty liner type pad.  However,
over time the leakage increased and a few weeks ago I went back to the
Depends Guards after having three accidents at work.  The leakage is just
drops, but I can feel it everytime I get up and sit back down in my chair at
work.  It is a padded seat, so I am not sure what the problem is.  I saw the
uro about a month ago and he had me bring in soiled pads for a 24 hour
period to weigh.  He did not give me the results of that but did ask me to
come back in three months.  In our discussion he mentioned that sometimes
they have to put in a second "cuff", the part that goes around the urethra.
That, of course, means more surgery and at this point I am not anxious to go
through that again.  I have had medical problems almost every year in the
past six, and had some kind of surgery in five of the last six years.  Two
were hernias, one laparoscopic one open surgery, a cataract and lens
replacement with one more coming in the future, gall bladder removal
laparoscopic, the RRP in 2003, and of course the AMS 800 surgery last year.
For once I would like to take vacation time for vacation instead of to
recover from surgery.  The one year where I did not have surgery the good
news was going on two medicines for high blood pressure, so although there
was no surgery it was still a big event for me.  I had been trying to avoid
that for years, but finally the numbers were too high to ignore and it took
doubling and quadrupling one of the med's to get the numbers down to 125/74
or so, which is still nothing to brag about I get.  Bottom line is I need a
vacation from the medical establishment.

Oh, I had a sleep study last Monday because of the continued fatigue and
what my wife says is excessive sleeping.  I should get the results of that
one next week.  That could mean a machine and a mask to wear at night for
sleep apnea.  Swell.  And of course do not forget the colonoscopy last year.
Another wonderful experience.  HoHoHo.

So, enough venting from me.  How is Dave Perry doing?  Are you still in
the one pad a day group (and therefore "continent" per the Hopkin's
definition)?  I am using three pads a day, but I am not filling up the pads
like I used to.  No yellow tails, but changing for sanitary reasons as
suggested by my better half.

Better go before this screws up again.  I hope this makes it through.
Take care Dave.

Hi !
My MIL uses this mask (CPAP mask). It makes the world of difference for her.
According to her, it does take awhile to get used to wearing a mask at night but for
her the benefits are just short of stunning. She's a different person when well
rested and well oxygenated. If it looks like you need it, give it a fair trial
period. You might be surprised at its benefits.

Hi David S., glad to hear from you again.  I am sorry to learn of the
continued dribbles and all the medical stuff you've been through in the
last few years.  I can see why you would want a "real" vacation.

As for me, I was down to less than one pad per day on average until the
buggers at Kimberly-Clark downsized the "extra absorbent" blue material
in the center of the pads.  Now I'm back to more than one per day on
many days although I've just stopped wearing pads after dinner if I'm
going to be home with minimal walking.  Of course, it's always a fresh
pad if I go out for the evening.  Incidently, I contacted K-C regarding
their downsized pads and I was assured they have the same absorbency as
before and they are terribly sorry I'm disappointed in their product
and they sent some coupons to me to help me through the transition.
Well, their coupons are nice but the new pads have almost five square
inches (I measure them) less blue absorbing area than the old ones.
It's interesting that I can be continent per the Hopkins' definition
with old pads but not with the new pads.  I wonder if Hopkins has
adjusted their statistics gathering accordingly. :)

Anyway, glad to get an update and here's wishing you the best.  Take
care.

My wife used a Cpap and has graduated to a Bpap.  She (and I) got used to it
very quickly.  And we can both tell when her mask or harness is worn and
needs replacement.
