Innards not quite the same after RP

So after 3 1/2 years all is OK, and I have no regrets about my RP. I
just thought I'd bring up the subject of what's going on down there. Seems
like more hemmoroid action, but then again I am older.  The newest thing is
an internal clenching feeling in my butt that sends a kind of tingling right
down my leg to my foot.  Once or twice every 30 minutes. I wonder if it's an
internal hemmoroid?  It does go away after a few days of suppositories. I
have had a colonoscopy fairly recently so I don't think it's anything to
worry about, but it comes and goes every few months, and lasts 2-3 days. I
think it's related to my surgery somehow. Things just aren't the way they
used to be down there.
My erections are fine with vitamin V, but I pretty much need to be
vertical for action. Urinating is great, but I don't have a really strong
urge to go anymore. I kind of do it by the clock now. The only leaking is
when I sit on the edge of a chair to tie my shoes, or sneeze.
I guess no one bounces back to 100% after this surgery. All that cutting
of tissue and nerves has got to take its toll I think? Anyone else have any
peculiar symptoms?

There's a whole series of physical therapy for prostatitis, not that
you have prostatitis, but that therapy deals with releasing tension in
the pelvic girdle.  Which can get extreme in the best of circumstances.
And which, I suspect, was begun or increased with surgery and all the
following cascade of effects.  So I was just reminded of this and
wondered if a physical therapist could make a difference.

I have been having that feeling for about 2 mos. now only all the time,
with moderate  to severe pain in my hipbone. I'm still waiting on
biopsy results. Right now I just assume my prstate is infected ans
swollen into a nerve. Tylenol helps, but dosage is getting too high

Glassman:

I feel different too. I had the surgery 14 months ago. Sex is not the
same, that's for sure. Vitamin V is of no help yet. Injections work to a
degree. Sometimes there are painful orgasms, or what used to be orgasms,
like a pole being pushed into your butt where the prostate used to be.
This seems to be getting a little better. As for hemmoroids, I had a
colonoscopy a few months ago and there were some internal ones. I feel
them at times when I attempt to have sex, especially during what was
once a pleasurable orgasm. This seems to be getting somewhat less
painful too. I think that they are going away, although not totally yet.
There are probably some nerves in the rectum that can cause a spasm. I
used to get these even before the surgery, although very rarely.
Sometimes when I'm tried from standing or doing yard work around the
house, I feel some soreness around that area too. Sitting for extended
periods can cause some soreness too. I'm not sure if it's the internal
scarring being pulled or the internal muscles being a bit sore from the
activity or pressure. The urinating part is not a problem as I go like a
race horse. No leaking now either. I was in control from day one after
the catheter was taken out, except for a few dribbles from sneezing, or
by some other event when I was not paying attention. All in all there
appears to be different strokes for different folks with these SE's as
everyone is wired a bit differently I guess. I hope this helps answer
some of your concerns.

Anything is possible, but another possible explanation is sciatica,
either because of local pressure on the nerve somewhere in your butt or,
more likely, some degeneration of a disc in your spine.   You should
talk to your doctor about it.  If you are beginning to have a disc
problem, it can be controlled by physical therapy and proper posture.
Also, if you can lose any weight, you shoud do so.

It is estimated that something like 85 percent of us have back problems
at some point in life.

I've had serious back problems since long before my surgery,  including
tingling like yours at different times.  That was the least of it by
far.  I seem mostly to be able to keep it under control with NSAIDs and
appropriate exercises, so I can still function.

Like you, I find it easier to maintain an erection when vertical, but I
think that has been getting a bit better with time, albeit very slowly.
I'm sure that in my case, it is partly some sort of "performance
anxiety".  One strange symptom I've noticed is an apparent change in
bowel habits that leads to plumbing problems.  I won't go into the gross
details, but I sometimes wonder if my colon has expanded to fill the
empty space left by removal of the prostate.  More likely it is just
some change associated with diet and aging.  Or it may result from the
NSAIDs I take to control my spinal problems.

Remember that as you get older, things happen to you in any case.   It
is easy to attribute it all to your surgery, but sometimes that is too
convenient an explanation.  The tingling I think is worth at least some
minimal followup because it could be a harbinger of things to come.
Nothing life threatening, but something that can be unpleasant if not
controlled.

Is there any evidence of physiological changes after the prostate is gone?
Does everything spread out and fill in the space or is there a variation of
which parts get what extra space? This expansion of organs plus scar tissue,
could go a long way in explaining the differences in the way we feel inside.
Then again, it may all be getting older.
