Yep!
I recommend prior to your appointment to get them out that you wet a
washcloth w/ warm water, lie down and place it over the incision area,
and let it soak awhile. The problem is that each staple leg puncture
has begun to heal by forming a little scab around the metal. When you
pull it out it is like pulling off all those little scabs - they don't
want to let go! Soften them up and the staples should come out like
butta.

Extraction of staples on my scalp didn't hurt - although I was expecting it
to. They used a special staple remover, which they gave me afterwards. There
was no scabbing ten days after insertion.
I go for the pins in my toes being pulled out onWednesday, thinking of it
makes me "feel funny in my water" as we say here (which also helps keep it
on topic) but I've been told that it tickles.
We shall see.

You will do fine.
You will feel so much better when they are gone!

Run your fingernails around the area. Do you feel anything? The site is so
numbed up, you won't feel anything for weeks.

on me ,the staples toward the top were ok but the ones down bottom were a
little tender. i asked the guy pulling them out if he could alternate ,top
and then bottom but i guess he didn't understand what i was saying. it
wasn't all that bad anyway.
good luck.

Depends on how they do it.
If they use a staple remover that unfolds the sharp ends, I
understand it's no big deal.
On the other hand, if a guy shows up with an electrician's
pliers, run. :)

i had 25 of those steel puppies in me. i ask that same question. but
by the eighth day, they started to sting a little bit and it was getting
to where i WANTED them out.
it wasn't painful. i say that because i would remember something like
that and i don't. i just remember walking in and laying on the table
and them taking them out and feeling better that the metal is gone.
so, everyone is right, it shouldn't hurt.

Absolutely not! However, it sure hurt to have them left in after the
swelling went down. After that they are loose and any movement causes the
points to irritate the incision.
The second time my father-in-law had them, he removed them himself rather
than put up with the pain.

Didnt hurt me, but as you can tell from the responses, "your mileage may
vary."

No, for me it did not hurt. I guess this procedure has been perfected.
Another thing that worried me was the catheter in my penis, but when it
was taken out that did not hurt either. Perhaps because a pretty red
haired nurse did it. Finally, all of this crap is one more step toward
being without any of the unintended results of the surgery. I am still
mad though, after five years, that I failed to find someone to do the
operation using the newer computerized and minimal incisions
techniques. My doctor tried that but an earlier doctor had given my
hormones to shrink the prostate and that made trying to do the
operation by remote impossible. There is a huge difference between the
two techniques as far as I know.

But it's all over now. The most important thing is that the cancer is gone.
Healing will occur, if it has not already, and hopefully side-effects are
minimal.
m_spivack - 01 Feb 2006 23:43 GMT
NOPE
When I asked my Uro if it would hurt he said tell ya what I'll just
pull 3 and we'll see. He went to work and in what seemed like seconds
he said how was that and i told him nod bad hardly felt anything. He
said goos cause we're already done. And by the way the catheter
removal was also painless just a funny sence of movement.
Of course your milage may vary

OK, WSF, you've seen the responses - just keep in mind that most of
these guys say the biopsy wasn't anything either, or having the
catheter removed, etc. - so take it w/ a grain of salt. Several of mine
were like pulling a hair out of that area w/ forceps - try it and see
how you like it - if that's nothing to you then fine. But, why take a
chance or even suffer any discomfort when you don't have to? Soften
them up as I suggested.
