Steve, Thought I'd pass along some additional PSA history for your records:

04/11/05 - 0.3
06/07/05 - 0.2
08/06/05 - 0.4
09/17/05 - 1.7
10/01/05 - 1.9 (Casodex Withdrawal)
10/15/05 - 1.8
10/29/05 - 1.8
11/14/05 - 1.8
12/01/05 - 1.7
12/16/05 - 1.6
01/03/06 - 1.7
01/23/06 - 0.8

So far, I have fallen in the 20% group that shows a PSA drop when Casodex is
withdrawn and clears the body.

Scans are clear with new bone growth complete where the two mets were.
24 year stats from my Medical Oncologist after Casodex Withdrawl are:
Shortest time of continued PSA drop - 4 weeks
Longest time of continued PSA drop - 15 months

Still a waiting game, but with many more bullets in the arsenal......

Hi, Gourd,

I'm confused.  You had a chemo trial that ended in December 2004.  Your PSA
was below 1.0 until it rose signficantly in September 2005.  And then it
started sneaking back down?

Is that what is expected?  Was there any additional treatment in or since
September?

You certainly aren't sitting still for cancer.  You have to be near half a
dozen different treatments.

Steve and Gourd,
I finished my 2 year trial and also experienced at slight bump in numbers -
0.003 Sep05
0.014 Oct 05
0.025 Nov 05
0.004 Jan 06

I'd never heard of the Casodex w/drawal bump - but I'm glad to see I'm
not the only one.

Them are some great numbers, Dan.  Sounds like a success.

Steve,

That's right. After the Chemo ended in December 2004, the balance of the two
year trial was to start 50 mg of Casodex a day. Under normal circumstances
one would expect the PSA to stay down 18-24 months. In my case it started
rising at 9 months. At that point I came off of Casodex. Researchers have
known since 1995 that after the stoppage of Casodex, PSA drops in 20% of the
cases. I fell into that 20% group and the PSA dropped once the half-life of
Casodex cleared by body.

It is expected that PSA will stay down anywhere from 4 to 15 months. As long
as the PSA stays down, I win. As soon as it starts to rise, it is time for
another bullet so that the cancer does not become strong enough to take
over.

Belief is that some where in my body a micro-fiber of cancer is floating
around, missed by the Chemo, just waiting for a place to land and attach
itself and grow. The nest way to monitor is via PSA and CEA tests. PSA draw
is now at once a month and CEA to monitor genetic change at once every four
months along with Bone Scan, Chest X-ray, and CT Scan.

I have taken a very aggressive attitude towards an aggressive cancer. It's a
waiting game and I would rather fight in Phase II trials than wait on the
FDA. You might think of it as instead of Non Illegitimi Carbordum, I prefer
to Knock the Bastard Down .... and as fast as I can.

I'll keep you informed on ammo used in the arsenal when it becomes
necessary.

:)

Sounds much better.  I wish I knew more Latin than what I learned as an
alter boy.
