Had my RLRP on 12/27/05.
Everything has seemed to go ok (with the usual SE's).
However, my urethra and perineum continue to be quite sore making sitting still very
unpleasant, and at times, down right impossible due to the pain. It has been like
this since the surgery. At first I just figured it was the pain from healing
internally. But since all my external incisions have healed 1-2 weeks ago, I'm
wondering why the internal healing hasn't improved much (if any at) all since the
surgery. I did also get an infection about 1.5 weeks ago (UTI w/pain in both
testicles, but it *seems* that 500mg of ciprofloxacin two times a day has started to
help with these infections). The urethra (under my perineum) *still* remains just as
sore, except when I'm lying down. When standing, along with the pain/ache, it feels
like tissue is being pulled/stretched. It generally doesn't hurt when I first get up
in the morning, but after I've been vertical for 10-20 minutes it starts to ache
again all day (unless I'm reclining in bed).

Anyone else have symptoms like these?
Thanks.

I did not experience you problem.  However, your stretching sensation seems
logical.  I am surprised that it doesn't bother most of us after seeing how
they take out a portion.

I do know that it takes months, not weeks, to completely heal inside.  The
exact time is foggy to me know, but it seems my uro said April (my surgery
was also in December), but then again, my was RRP.

I would certainly ask your doc.  I could be an infection (separate or
continuing).

Hi Ken.

I think at about a month...the discomfort you describe is not unusual.

I had the open version but either way...our insides really do get beaten
up.

The stretching and pulling...the blood settling etc. keep the discomfort
going. :-(

And as Steve mentioned...the infection didn't help any and hopefully
it's gone.

For now...rest and recline.  :-)

Best wishes,

Ron B.

I had some minor pain in that area for a couple of weeks after LRP in
2003.  Others have too.  I recall David S., another poster on this
group, had pain in that area that lasted for at least a few weeks,
maybe longer.  Your insides will take some time to heal since all forms
of surgery essentially do the same thing on the inside.  A quick
call/visit to the doctor could help and he/she should be kept in the
loop about these things anyway.  Good luck,

Ken

I had the same problem after my RRp 9/30/04. It was very painful
sitting for quite awile after the surgery but it did eventually
diminish and then go away. I found using one of those "doughnuts", used
by hemorrhoids sufferers, when sitting helped alot. Good luck.

Hi Frank!
Yes, I've been using a 'doughnut', and it has helped.
I might add, that unless it's an amazing coincidence, after about 1 week of the 500mg
of ciprofloxacin two times a day, *all* the pain is almost entirely gone. Since I've
never had any surgery before this, up until last week's UTI, I figured all the pain
was post-surgical 'healing'. However, I'm now more inclined to think I've had an
infection that just got worse and worse over the last 3-4 weeks. Almost 4 weeks of
pain, when all I needed was a week of antibiotics. Geeesh.... I could kick myself
now. I was a miserable camper for weeks for no good reason...

Ken,

I had RRP 10/5/05 and have had problems with infections. I've learned
that a small infection can cause a lot of pain. If you think about the
amount of pain that can result from an infected tooth you get the idea.
Stay on top of it and you'll do fine.

That's interesting, Ken. I also guessed that the pain was from the
healing and just waited it out. But I was also taking Cipro (prescribed
by my Uro post surgery probably to treat any poissible infection) at
the same time. I didn't connect the pain with a possible infection but
now that you mention it that probably is what was going on and i didn't
realize it at the time. As I recall my pain lasted about 2 weeks and
then subsided.
Good Luck
