Hi all.  I'm relatively new here.  I have a first appointment in a week with
a uro/surgeon in NYC.  His name has appeared on this list in the past.
Would there be any objection to my posting his name in the hope of eliciting
details about the personal experience of anyone who actually had an RRP with
him?  I'd include a valid e-address for anyone who wishes to respond
privately.

I'm asking just to make sure this would not be a breach of etiquette.

I live in a Jersey suburb of NYC, and my biopsy was done by a local
uro/surgeon.  With the tons of info on the web about PCa, there seems to be
precious little to help in choosing a top level physician.  I know the
dictum about how important it is to choose an expert, and I've seen lists of
the "artists," but they are few and far between.  I asked my local uro's
staff asst. the other day for a list of recent RPP patients.  She went back
to consult the doc, and the msg came back that "we'll talk about it if I
decide on that route."  There may be a HIPPA thing, I don't know.

Anyway, if it's ok, I'll start another thread with my specific inquiry.
Many thanks,  RonL  (I posted before as Ron, but I notice there are several
of us, hence "RonL".)

RonL,
Name him. Lots of docs have been rated here. It is not scientific, but
you may get telling anecdotes. My doc (Dr.Wagner in Hartford,CT) gave
me a list of his RP patients willing to talk about their experience.
The only requirements for being on the list are having the surgery, and
being willing to talk to others about it. I found it very helpful. I'm
on it myself now.

Ron, I highly recommend Dr. James Eastham as Sloan Kettering. The whole
staff is GREAT. I just had an RPP four weeks ago and doing very well.
Good luck to you. His associate is Peter Scardino but Scardino no
longer see new patients.

Dominic, would you believe: he's the guy I'll be meeting with a week from
Monday!   I'm going to start another thread with his name in subject, but
thank you for the endorsement.   Yes, they told me Scardino is not
available.  I'm reading his book now.  I notice he acknowledges Eastham.
I'm guessing their procedures are very similar.

I feel better already, (and I don't particularly care whether the Patriots
win tonight :-)  )  -RonL

Dr Steckel at North Shore. Not too far away from NYC. He's the head of
the department, and chief uro surgeon.... a young guy.... great bedside
manner.
