Question about pomegranate juice

I have been reading a lot about the ability of pomegranate juice to
inhibit the progession of PCa.  In a recently published study, 48 men
with recurrent prostate cancer (previously treated by surgery or
radiation) who drank 8 oz of pomegranate juice, experienced
significant increases in the their PSA doubling times. (all had PSA
values in the range of 0.2 - 5 and GS of 7 or less)

http://www.webmd.com/content/Article/106/108151.htm

I am pursuaded of the possible value of pomegranate juice, and now
drink 8 oz of the stuff each day (yucky taste, IMO ) hoping  to
prevent or stave off a recurrence of PCa.  I had RRP in Aug 2003.
But, I have a concern.  What is the best brand of pomegranate juice to
consume?  Some brands indicate that their juice is pasteurized.  Other
brands don't say one way or the other (at least on their labels).
Pasteurization is a heating process, and heat can destroy the active
ingredients (polyphenolic flavonoids... ?)

I found one place that sells dried pomegranate (ariels).  The idea is
to add water, and make your own juice.  You thereby get unpasteurized
juice...  Then again, one has to ask was heating used to dry the
pomegrantes in the first place?  If it's freeze-dried, then there is
no problem.

The other downside to pomegranate juice is the cost.  If you're on a
budget, it's an issue.  On average, a 32 oz bottle of pomegranate
juice costs  $ 7 - 10 .  That adds up if you're drinking 8 oz a day.
The option of extracting your own juice directly from pomegranates is
both expensive and impractical.

Any thoughts or info on this?

I have no info on pomegranate juice, but lycopene is
another natural organic chemical that has been shown
to be beneficial in some (though not all) studies.  It's
found in tomato juice, tomato sauce, and watermelon,
all of which are pretty cheap.

I drink 8 oz. of tomato juice per day and buy it in the
form of "Ruby Kist Vegetable Juice" (a V8 knockoff)
for $1.75 for a 48 ounce bottle.

Search "pomegranate" within this group.  This subject was discussed a
month or so ago.  "POM" is carried by the major grocery chains were I
live, it is usually in the refrigerated fresh juice section.  POM is
involved in PCa testing of their juice...Best wishes and good help

P.S.  POM also sells mixtures with other juices, the combination with
blueberry juice doesn't taste half-bad.

Based on that study I started taking pomegranate extract - 1
capsule/day. I hope it has the same effect.
