AMS 800 implant pain . . .

It's been 8 days and I have severe pain just above the right leg (side
device was put on) in the lower abdomen. It hurts most when I bend
straight over, or stand straight up. It is from the tube leading to the
reservoir, which is rubbing against tissue/nerves. Anyone heard of such
a thing? I thought I read up a lot about this device, and never heard
of the risk of such a complication. Doc is out of town till Tues, his
partner said Wed that he was sure it would get better, but I don't see
how it could possible get better. It is like a pinched nerve and if
anything gets worse each successive day. I can't walk but a short
distance, and then only hunched over.

TDub,
Maybe you should be seen by the covering doctor. Hopefully he is right,
and it will just get better, but in the mean time, why suffer? He
should be able to give you something for the pain. Good luck.

Pain pills can't help the level of pain I'm getting from the 800.
Seeing the doc tomorrow.

Halleluiah! Pain is heavy days 3-10, but subsides rapidly thereafter.
It would help if docs warned you of this so you wouldn't necessarily
think something is wrong. I've never felt that intensity of pain, even
after the RP. But it is tolerable, and probably worth it for the
benefits to come from the device; you just can't do much during those 7
days, so plan on reclining a lot for one week if you are up for an 800
implant. And I would guess there wouldn't be that much pain after a
replacement 800 implant, after the device had tired and died after 10
years or so, since the body is already use to the thingy inside.

Hi Tdub, I'm glad that you're feeling better.

When Buttercupsdad had the AMS800 installed...he had soreness but not
the kind of pain that you described.

I'm glad you went to the doc early.

Continued progress,

Ron B.
