MINION POWER!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm getting an amazing amount of response from a recent newspaper
article that I also posted on this forum. Here's one that, while not
directly related to PCa, is in need of your thoughts and prayers.

A neighbor and friend named Jean is going under the knife tomorrow to
have more than half her colon removed for cancer treatment. She found
out only three weeks ago when she had a colonoscopy. They found a large
cancerous tumor, nearly blocking her colon. The need for surgery was
immediate and she had very little time to understand and prepare.

I just returned from her home where I spent an hour consoling her and
answering her cancer related questions. She is very distressed but is
in good spirits otherwise.

I gave her my LIVESTRONG wristband and told her that she would be in my
prayers. I also told her that I would invoke the reknowned healing
powers of the posters on this forum.

Hope you can spend a moment to think about Jean. She is 57 and facing a
very uncertain future.

If you know of any colon cancer references and/or support groups, let
me know and I'll pass them on. She is woefully uninformed.

I have other stories that may also require your services. You'll learn
of them soon. Practice makes perfect!

Thanks!

Pops...Jean can check out ACORs colon cancer discussion list at
http://listserv.acor.org/archives/colon.html
She'll need to subscribe first and that can be done from the above
link.  ACOR supports discussion lists for most cancers, including the
Prostate Problems Mailing List which has been mentioned here from time
to time.  Jean's in my prayers...Best wishes and good health, Ron

Unless there are complications, it goes this way:
1. Your friend goes to sleep.
2. She wakes up hours later high on morphine.
3. Over the next 4-5-6 days she gradually feels better, walks increasing
distances, eats better food, leaves a fecal calling card as proof she's
functioning again, and goes home, self-sufficient. She might want some
occasional Tylenol at home.
4. She'll be back at work in a week or two.
5. She'll pretty much forget she had surgery within 4-6 weeks.
6. She'll occasionally be reminded by messy baby poop that she's lost some
colon. It's time to buy some really plush TP.

That's it.

UNLESS ... her cancer is spread, or involves some unique parts such as her
rectum, or involves her whole colon, in which case it may be bag time,
temporarily or permanently. Only her doctors know yet whether her case sits
above or below the "That's it" line.

I had a big, honkin', aggressive, often lethal cancer removed from my colon
at the same time they removed my prostate. By far the biggest hassles of the
whole procedure and recovery were the recovery ward heat and noise and the
catheter, in debatable order. The rest was primarily just a lousy vacation.
She'll be fine unless there are complications. I've had sprained ankles that
hurt infinitely more and far longer.

I.P.
