I am/was at MDACC for 7 years for treatment of node positive PCA.  I've changed insurance to a Medicare replacement plan that MDACC does not take.

So I've located Dr. Amato and will see him in a couple of weeks.  On "paper" he appears great (MDACC background, Baylor and Methodist).  But I'd like your opinion about his style, how aggressive he is with treatment, trials that he is involved with and any concern that you might have with him being a DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) instead of an MD.

Thanks for your help.

Mark,

No concerns about the DO. He has been a Research Medical Oncologost for 24 years. Spent time at MDA. BCM hired him away and with the split is now with Methodist Reasearch Institute while still maintaining a relationship with Baylor.

He was highly recommended to me by two other Radiation Oncologists. The words used was, if you are going to a Medical Oncologist then get one who specializes in Prostates.

Amato specializes in Prostates and Kidneys.

He does Phase II Clinical Trials only - ie, no blinds.....

Everything that he does is cutting edge with a cure in mind after primary treatment fails. I figure that is a lot better than sitting around with only pallative treament in mind.

My first consultation with him lasted over two hours. He went over films, options, and treatments.

Hope this helps,

Mike
