I am going on 11 weeks out from my last bladder neck reconstruction
surgery, and this one appears to have been a success (unlike the one 21
weeks ago, in which my bladder neck reconstricted after 8 weeks).
Success is either due to doc opening up more and/or my taking 200mg
Celbrex and Prednisone daily to deter the undersireable
constriction-autoimmune response. However, this last one had lots of
pain - it wasn't until a couple weeks ago that I could sit down for any
length of time and not have severe pain in the perineum/urethra area.
This procedure seems to have heavily stressed the sphincter - I
couldn't sneeze until a few days ago for fear of blowing my lower gut
out, could hardly cough due to the pain at the sphincter, and even now
I have small amounts of blood mixed in with the urine -  but in the
past few days everything has gotten much better. Seeing the doc next
week for a cystoscopy, then the AMS 800 implant the following week (can
you spell "beat-next-year's-$3500-deductible"??!!!). Although I could
wait to see if, by chance, the sphincter reconstructs itself to the
point where I was either continent ("not bloody likely" as Jerry S
would say) or only needed a sling, I have been waiting now for 30
months and I have had enuf of this yellow-colored-water-stuff.

Good luck Tdub.  Just remember that most men with the AMS 800 still have
drips and need some type of absorbent pad.  Do not set yourself up for a
disappointment by expecting 100% continence (then again, some men do not
need a pad, so??).  Also, do not be surprised if after the surgery you find
that you do not leak much for the first few days.  That happened to me and I
wondered if I had done the right thing.  Turns out the short blessing of
continence was due to swelling and when that subsided the tide came in and I
was filling up a Depends Guard every two hours and counting the days for the
six weeks to be up so the device could be activated.  What a difference!
One or two panty liners a day now, and the change to the second one is
because I want to, not because I have to.

I do still have some tenderness in the scrotum, but they tell me that in
time that will go away.

I hope you have a very happy and dry New Year!

Best wishes on the AMS800 TDub.

You've had so many ups and downs, I'm hoping that this procedure helps
greatly.

Best of luck with your implant.  I had the AMS 800 put in this past March
and have been well pleased with the results.  Long story short, is that
leakage was reduced by perhaps 90%.  The first several months were great,
with no pads needed, but then I guess the swelling was gone and a very light
pad is needed, usually just one a day.  I did not realize how much the
incontinence affected everyday life until I was rid of it.  I hope your
results are as good.
