A year and counting, and my surgeon thought I'd be dry within days post-op.
I'm still getting drier, but ain't no way I'm giving up my diapers for pads
yet.
Beats the hell out of cancer.

At 19 months I was still going through 1 to 3 man pads per day - more if I
was extremely active. I was using 6 to 8 per day immediately after surgery
and leveled off at 1 to 3 in 6 months.
On November 2, 2005 I had a male sling installed and was immediately dry.
I'm now one month post op. The sling, and probably the 6 screws, they
installed still causes me noticeable discomfort -- but then my uro told me
it would take 6 weeks to become acclimated to it.
Hope he was right. Come on December 14!

Hello Jimmy,
We all have differing rates of incontinence.
How old are you?
What treatment did you have?
I can still understand you are having a problem.
Explain that issue, and with regards to your diagnosis and treatment.
Sorry for your problems.......They are not fun.
There are many ways to prevent incontinency other than a diaper also.
wish you the best. sorry for your problems.

That's damned near a jog, Jimmy. Three times a day? I'd say you are in
great shape.

Your numbers are about the same as mine were Jimmy. It is way too soon for
you to expect to return to full control. Many here have reported that it
comes slowly and three months seems to be the magic number. Keep up the
exercises, walking and the Kegels. Just give it time. If you end up in the
same boat as I did, long term incontinence, there are several alternatives
to consider. Check back here and there are guys who can help.
One bit of advice. If someone suggests using a clamp, I would hold off on
that for now. Give it time to heal naturally first before becoming
dependent on artificial means. I have a neighbor who is in his 70's and a
year later he was still incontinent so he tried a clamp. He loves it. I
think he said he paid around $40 for it from his uro. But you are too soon
post op to consider that, IMO.

Hi Jimmy.
Boy, Steve K is RIGHT.
Walking like you do is SUPER!
It can only help you.
You're early on so try not to fret.
I had an open RRP on March 21st of this year. (I'm 57) T1c, Gleason
3+3=6, good pathology, neg. margins... follow-up PSA's...undetectable.
Leaked like you speak of when getting up, etc.
In bed...is the time when most guys stay dry.
I moved from several depends a day...to Depends guards...(with a 'pee
rag' ,as Curtis calls it :-) when I had to turn and get up from bed or
a chair...or step out of the shower, etc.
It got better over time and I got smaller pads.
Serenity Plus, ladies pads, then extra, then regular.
Now I use a pad a day (at 8 mos...but don't really leak.) There are days
when I see a drop of discoloration on the pad...and some days with none.
I could use a smaller pad now but am using up my package. :-)
Then...one day...I'll just go without and see how wet the jockeys are
during the day.
My thought, and the other guys too...you're doing GREAT buddy.
I always send this site from my doc.
I hope it helps.

All the best,

I've been "in continent" all my life, save for a few trans-atlantic
flights. I dream of ocean voyages, when I wouldn't be "in continent", but
I haven't the spare change to do that. Am I confused, or just mixed up?

All wet, maybe?

My surgery was August of 2003 and I was incontinent at various levels for
the entire time. In September I had surgery to implant the AMS 800
artificial urinary sphincter. At the same time they did a bladder neck
resection because the opening was only about one third the size it should
be, or so I was told. The leaking went from 2-3 Depends Guards per day to
filling one up every 2 hours. The artificial sphincter was activated six
weeks after the surgery, and now I just use a panty liner type pad. I
usually change in the late afternoon just for sanitary reasons. The pad is
not full by any means. I am 58 and otherwise in good health.
Good luck.

Is this a contest? Whats the prize, and box of diapers? 6 months for me. I
still squirt under the following circumstances.
1. Seeing my wife naked
2. Tying my shoes
3. Sneezing & coughing

I think probably that guy in the bible who lived what was it, 800
years? I can't imagine his sphincter lasting more than a century or
two. Seriously, I'm well over two years out and still wear a pad. I
rarely need more than one a day. I have tried something new in the
last month or so to try and get some more control and that is to wear
no pad for hours at a time while at home puttering around inside or in
the yard. I've found that I am much more conscious of pending drips
and I've noticed fewer dribbles down the pant leg while doing this. I
expect to gradually extend the padless times and maybe even venture out
for short trips pad-free. My plan is that this will translate into a
bit more control with a pad and eventually no pads or at least pads
only when in crisis mode (away from a bathroom for more than an hour or
two).
