Hi All,

My dad is a Russian and I live in Portland, OR. He was diagnosed with
prostate cancer recently.
I am trying to find a way to help him. Can I get his labs over Internet
and show to an American doctor? Perhaps MRI, ultrasound? I do not even
know what's the protocol and how to approach a doctor in such
situation. may be there are some organisations that offer help? Sorry
for the barrage of unprofessional questions but the new got me
overwhelmed, especially when I start thinking the condition the
medicine there is in.

TIA, Yuri

I don't know the answer to your question, though I do know
that wealthy non-U.S. citizens often come to the U.S. or to
Western Europe for medical treatment.

I presume there are some good doctors and hospitals in
Russia, and that treatment will be easier and cheaper for him
to get in Russia than in the U.S.  U.S. medical care is
outrageously expensive for people that do not have health
insurance - often costing many times what the equivalent
services cost in other countries.

Can someone help him find good treatment options in
Russia?  Would sending money there would enable him
to get private care that is better than the state sponsored
care?

Best of luck.

Where in Russia does your father live, Yuri?  How old is he?  Do you not
feel he will get good medical care there?  Surely, the medical establishment
in modern day Russia must be up on the latest treatments for Prostate
Cancer??
Has your father shared any of his diagnosis information with you?  His PSA?
His Gleason score?
I hope that you will find a way to get him the help you feel will be best!
Keep us posted!

Oh sure, just like Israel, where Taxotere is not permitted 'cuz it's "too
expensive" (IOW, let 'em die horribly so long as we don't spend too much to
save lives), and Canada, where Taxotere was not approved until a couple of
months ago. How many men died a ghastly death as a result?

If the patient's (how awkward; what's his name?) clinical record can be
sent via the 'Net, it should be a simple matter to take the information to
an oncologist for review. However, that onc will probably want to deal
directly with the patient.

The man who, in my non-objective opinion, is the best is Stephen B. Strum,
MD, who is in Ashland, Oregon. i understand that he's expensive. Can't hurt
to ask, though.

Yuri is a good son....

Steve J

Thank you everybody and Steve for the doc recommendation. I am sorry for
not
being able to figure out how the Net thing works, so I may have cross or
double
posted the request first: I posted another one with more data on his PSA
and
biopsy results under a similar title on the same newsgroup. I was using
Google
and a 12-yearold Mac, so I may have mixed a few things up in the
process.
Thank you again and my apologies for the numerous sem-redundant posts.

(take care of the stuff in my email address if you need to send anything
my
way]

best, Yuri
