Things are going pretty well.  I am using panty liners instead of
Depends Guards, man what a change that is.  I don't even know they are
there.  But, they do the job.  I do have leaks, so unfortunately what I was
told by the doctor and others here is true, there are still drips, emphasis
on drips, not leaks, and some type of absorbent protection is necessary.  On
the weekends I went without, and it seemed to depend upon what I did whether
I had much escape or not.  We ate at a restaurant that had hard seats, and
that seemed to affect me.  My behind really hurt when I got up and that
seems to be an example of when I had more wetness.  I did not feel it come
out, so I do not know if it was while sitting or when I got up.  In any
case, the bottom line is that some type of pad is still needed.  But this
thing my wife bought for me is about as round as a silver dollar and has
about as much bulk as two or three kleenex.  I'll bet I could put six of
them in my pocket and no one would notice.  Yes, I am happy about that.
Still have some soreness in the scrotum.  One fellow here reported that
it took five months for that to go away for him.  Looks like it will take
some time for me to get that behind me.  It is not bad, and it does not
affect my daily activities in any way, so I am not complaining.  It is just
"there".
My biggest problem is still learning to use this thing.  I have to drop
my pants in order to get at it and it takes me two hands to do the job.  No
room through the fly to get my paws in there to hold it with one hand to
stabilize the device, and then to squeeze with the other.  Anyone willing to
offer suggestions on techniques?  Do you do the manipulation from outside
the pants?  One hand or two?  I have tried to do it from outside, but I
cannot feel the device well enough to do what I have to do, so there I am
still struggling.  Our restrooms here are one customer at a time, so it
really does not matter.  In a public restroom I have to go into a stall to
pee.  Not a big deal, but also not what I would want long term.  Also, just
for the heck of it, I find that two squeezes does the job.  Is that the same
for you guys that have the device?  Just wondered.
Finally, I have recently seen discussion on the life of the device.  My
doctor told me to expect ten years.  Something I saw recently said five
years.  Also, my doctor told me to not turn it off at night.  What I read
recently said the exact opposite (imagine that, hearing conflicting opinions
on something having to do with prostate cancer and its side effects?!).
Opinions?  Comments?
Thanks for the ear (eye).   Have a good day.

Sounds really good David.

You are still real new with this and it's gonna get smoother and
smoother.

Techniques?  Yeah, (remember the old 'Dick Van Dyke Show'?)

Well, before manipulating the device...you take a corded telephone,
swing it over your head...and scream like a chicken.

That will help.  :-)

Also...did your doc tell you that since you're using panty liners
now...you have to wear panties?

Yes, it's true...and I think black lace are the nicest. They go well
with any urine leaks and won't discolor.

Hey. being goofy is just what I do at noon...I used to watch 'Bozo's
Circus'...when I was in COLLEGE!  :-)

Continued success,

Ron B.

Guess I have to make it to the mall this weekend...let's make a note:

Victoria's Secret

black lace panties, size 42 inch waist (do they make them that big?)

red bra for motorcycle - do you prefer a certain cup size Curtis?

Soon after my RP I had to use the stalls because often as not I'd have to
replace my man-pad.

When I mentioned to my wife that I wouldn't want spend my life setting down
to  pee,
she responded:   "Why not? Women have to."

I didn't have a politically correct response to that   : )

FWIIW, the bill came and the total charges for the AMS 800 implant surgery
was around $25,000.  Blue Cross paid $11,000, and $14,000 was written off.
At full price that comes out to around 1,666 packages of Depends Guards for
those of you into cost benefit analysis.

Figuring 52 pads per package, and using 6 per day, that is 14,444 days worth
of pads.  That then equals about 39.5 years worth of pads.  Assuming the
surgery is worth it on other, non financial, grounds there has to be an
adjustment factor applied.  That factor would have to be something at least
around an 8 to discount the 40 years to 5.  That is to say that one would be
willing to pay the extra cost in order to get at least 5 years of dry time,
assuming a huge discount factor for the non-financial benefits.  Figuring a
man in his 50's getting PCa, and SE's of incontinence, 40 years on its own
would mean that it would never really pay to get the surgery.  Am I figuring
this wrong?

Leonard, where are you when I need you??

AMS 800 solves the (special) incontinence problems of a) leaking
(substantially) more when you are socializing (and thus not attending
to the feelings of the need to pee, b) not being able to attend special
events, like concerts, where you would have to wait too long to be able
to get to the toilet amongst the crowd, c) the "anti-social" effect of
leaking, i.e., being less inclined as a result to entertain intimate
personal engagements (for you single people), and d) just the time-cost
spent changing pads, buying them and discarding them.
