This morning I was told my brother in law was diagnosed with colon
cancer.  I don't yet have a lot of details, other than what I was
told, specifically, that his CSA is elevated fairly high, and that he
has had back pain (other than standard muscular back pain, which he
has had for years after an auto accident), so they want to do a bone
scan to look for metastasis.

So first, as I understand this group is for prostate cancer support,
but does it generally include colon, and if not does anyone know of a
colon cander support group?

I love my brother in law, and want to be able to do research on his
behalf.

Second, I've been googling around the colon websites, but if anyone
knows of a "clearing house" website, please inform me.

Third, pardon my ignorance on terminology.  I have a lot to learn.

Thanks so much,
Dave

Hi Dave...ACOR has information and  discussion groups for most types of
cancer; colon cancer is included in their list .  The following url
will provide an overview of ACOR and allow you to migrate to the colon
cancer informational pages.  You will need to register if you want to
join the colon cancer discussion group...Best wishes and good health,
Ron

Thank you, Ron.  It looks like the information exchanges and chats are
done through e-mail.  Is that right?

I'd like to know before I receive dozens of e-mails each day.

TIA
Dave

Yes Dave, that's correct for the discussion group.  However, when you
sign up for a discussion group you can select to recieve information in
individual e-mails or digest format.  Other information relative to
colon cancer can be viewed at the site directly...Ron

I hear that! I have unrelated prostate and colon cancers, tried in vain to
find a colon cancer newsgroup anywhere NEAR the superb level of this
prostate cancer group, and hadn't heard of this ACOR site. But the e-mail
aspect puts me off, too; I have right now over 200 unopened e-mails in my In
box, all from sources I invited such as financial, health, and computer
groups. I don't need no more steenkin' e-mail!

If you find a good interactive resource, Baldycotton, please drop back in
and let us know; I'm not the only colon cancer pt here.

Dozen's? You could receive hundreds.
Subscribe to digest mode.
There's also us on alt.support.cancer  Many colon cancer patients post to
the newsgroup and also join the ACOR list.
I have information about an ostomy support group/list.
And probably good links to the various types of surgeies.
You'll need the staging information.
Some colon cancer is curable with surgery and/or radiation therapy.
My Dad's was caught early. Cured by surgery.
By the way, its CEA levels.
See you maybe on alt.support.cancer ?

Have you tried alt.support.cancer?  I think they will include people with
experience with the colon cancer, or at least someone there may be able to
direct you to other sources.

Good luck.

I am exceedingly sorry to hear about your brother in law.  Colon cancer is
very cureable if caught early.  I hope the pain in his back is not from the
cancer.
