Did anyone else watch this show on 13 October, last week? In the
episode, Dr. Benko discusses with a nurse (Abbie) the fact that he just
got his PSA results back and it was 6.5. He mentioned that the stage
was T1 and he was opting for a Radical Prostatectomy by Dr. Seng. It
was to be a bilateral nerve sparing procedure for patients with low
volume diseases. He also mentioned that he had a 25% chance of loss of
erectile function, and told Abbie of the aids/procedures that would be
open to him.

Yeh, glad they got it right for the most part. The 25% seemed a little
low but maybe Dr. Seng is topnotch. Of course the story would be
incomplete without his requesting Abbie to sleep with him before
surgery just in case it might be his last one, and also to sleep with
him after surgery to see if it still works. Abbie declined but did ask
a professional in these matters if she did pro bono work and directed
her to Dr. Benko. Can't wait to see how all this unfolds. Will he or
won't he? Can he or can't he? Good to see our "problem" discussed.

Dave,
I didn't want to mention all the "naughty bits" (apologies to Monty Python)
as I didn't want to get the group too excited.
I liked the professional's job title: "Satisfaction Facilitator".
Steve,
Had my check-up on the 10th of this month. PSA is fine. Thanks for
thinking about me.

It is good to see they got it right this time. Several years ago, they
had a man diagnosed with prostate cancer in the ER, and they tell him he
needs an RP. This whole scenario is rather unlikely. Any prostate
cancer which sends a man to the ER is very likely to have metastasized
long before the diagnosis, so RP is not going to be the method of
treatment. In any case, he is advised to store his sperm in case he
wants to have children, but he has some problem arranging that. He
discusses the problem with Elizabeth, who at the end is seen going off
with him, but we are not told why.

Yup I walked in the room by chance at that exact moment, and proudly
proclaimed, "that's me"!!

As a devout channel surfer I seldom see all of anything, so I did not see
the show. From where I sit of course I wonder why he did not discuss peeing
all over himself? Guess he is young enough to be more worried about sex
than that. Or, perhaps that would not make such a great story line for a tv
show.

Well, they blew it - you knew they would. Dr. Benko, post surgery, was
pushing himself around the hospital in a wheelchair (why?) with no
evidence of a catheter and claiming he had two erections that day
(apparently with the help of the "satisfaction facilitator"). I don't
remember anything like that but then it's been over two years - maybe I
forget.

Dave,
The only wheelchair I remember was upon discharge when they took me to the
main lobby for my wife to pick me up in our car.
