I have lurked intermittently on this NG for some months.
I guess I have been worrying about my BPH (benign prostate enlargement)
diagnosis because it took nearly 8 months for an abnormally high PSA tset of
24 to fall to a very acceptable level for my age 60. The doctor said he was
95% certain I did not have PCa but .............. anyway seems he was
correct.
I now have developed (relatively suddenly) a constriction of the urethra
which would seem to be caused by my enlarged Prostate which presses into my
bladder according to the ultrasound resports.
At first I thought, due to the sudden nature of the latest symptoms, maybe I
had picked up some infection in the urinary tract, however, antibiotics have
not shown any improvement so I now fear the possibility/inevitability of
surgery.
I know this is a PCa NG & many of you if not most will have worse fears.
Is it OK for me to ask for some guidance re my problem here?

Peter O

There is a support group for BPH.  I'm not sure of the exact name, but a
little searching should find it.

Have you had a biopsy?  Otherwise, why is your doctor so sure you don't
have prostate cancer?

=========>  hi peter - i had the enlarged prostate problem like you
described.  the pressing into the bladder, the slowing down to pee, the
nightly trips to the bathroom, but what bothers me is that psa of 24.

have the doctor put you have an antibiotic for two weeks and take the
psa again.  that should rule out prostate infection by then.

if it is still high,  then have a psa II test ran.  this measures the
amount of free psa in your blood that is unattached.  that number should
be 25 or higher.  if it is lower then that is telling you something.

you see, as you develop prostate cancer, your psa will climb and your
free psa will drop.

so, if you high a psa and a high free psa number, then chances are, it's
just BPH.

hope this helps,

I cannot speak for the others here, but I suspect aside from those cured,
our favorite posts are from those who were never diagnosed.
