I just graphed it, Mike. You would expect after April 98, your PSA would do
exactly the inverse of what it did.
Your case is especially perplexing in that it seemed to be nearly doubling
up to July 2001 and then, for no apparent reason, it started leveling off --
but still rising.
Then, as I recall, you started some supplements during 2004 and your PSA has
since leveled... actually decreased slightly.
Did you do anything different during 2001?
To answer your question, I would guess you have residual cancer in your
body. If you made no changes in your treatment during 2001, something,
maybe an abnormal immune system, seems to be learning how to handle it. It
is the oddest thing I've read in this newsgroup or anywhere else. I should
think your doctor would have you studied.

I had seeds for PC in April 98 preceded by Lupron and Eulexin for four
months to shrink my prostate. Here is a listing of my PSAs since then:
10/98---0.2
4/99----0.5
10/99--0.8
4/00----0.9
10/00--1.4
4/01----2.1

9/02----2.91

9/03----2.99
4/04----3.39
9/04----3.36
4/05----3.04
9/05----3.24
As you can see, the slow rise has stopped and it appears to have settled
down. My uro is not concerned. What do you experts think?

My guess is that the supplements have boosted my immune system enough to
fight any remaining cancer cells. At any rate, my uro says that he
wouldn't recommend any further treatment until the PSA got up to 10. At
the present rate, I will probably die of old age before that happens (I
will be 77 in November).

So, did you celebrate your birthday in '99 with an operation?

I remember this too. It was after reading about Mike's case that
I started taking lots of supplements - particularly drinking tomato
juice to get the lycopene.
Mike,
Although I'm no expert, I can't see any reason to disagree with what your
doctor is doing - which is nothing. I presume the slowly rising PSA indicates
that you still have cancer. But at that rate it could rise for several decades
before it starts to look even remotely dangerous.
The only treatment available to you after radiation is hormone therapy. HT
would probably lower your PSA from 3.whatever to below 0.1. But what good
would it do you? You'd suffer all the side effects of HT and the only benefit
would be your very small and somnolent cancer would become even more
somnolent. You have no symptoms of cancer and, if this rate of growth
continues, you'll never have any symptoms. HT would do you more harm
than the cancer is doing.
I would save the HT for some time when and if you really need it.
Meanwhile, I'm going to keep drinking tomato juice and hope to do as well
as you have.

I take my tomato juice as "tomato soup" I heat the juice in the
microwave, and add a dollop of Olivio (margarine). I am also taking a
Gamma E/selenium supplement as well as D3, Boron, and ground flaxseed.
I use soy milk (Silk) on my Fiber One cereal. I don't know which ones
are helping but I plan to continue.

Ah yes, I remember the soup with margarine. The soup sounds
good, but the margarine might be a bit more than I'm prepared
for.
The data on all these things is so skimpy it's impossible to tell
what works and what doesn't. I alternate between wanting to use
all of the supplements and not believing in any of them.
Whatever is working for you, I hope it keeps on working.

Sounds like a beautiful place to be.
