Met with the urologist today to review the results of the 2nd post-op. PSA
blood test taken last week.

While, according to him, the actual count of 0.05 is not a major concern by
itself, the fact that this count has increased by something like 2.5 times
(it was 0.02 three months ago) is a flag that things may be going to hell in
a handbasket.

Boy, I can hardly wait for the next test results in December.

Charlie.

June 2004 - PSA = 7.5
September 17, 2004 - biopsy
stage = normal T1c,
Gleason score = 3 + 4= 7.
January 28, 2005 - RRP.
Pathology examination - Stage = pT3a, pNX margins positive, revised Gleason
= 4 + 3= 7
May 30, 2005 - PSA = 0.02
August 29, 2005 - PSA = 0.05

Hello Charlie,
Relax.
Get the PSA in and see.
PSA test can be tough...
00.05  and 00.02
Maybe means that your are fine, and the tests are not the highest quality.
Right now you are under......
You should relax, enjoy your family and life....

I had similar PSA readings. 0.03 three months after RRP, 0.07 nine
months after. My 1 year reading leveled off at 0.08, however. My uro
says that some people will have readings that level off around 0.10 and
do not increase due to slivers of non-cancerous prostate tissue that
were left behind. The standard for return of PCa is 0.20. Time will
tell.

Charlie,

You PSA has been your only good news.  That T3a and 4+3 is scary stuff.
And, of course, if I recall correctly, you had extracapsular penetration to
the bladder.

However, rising .03 means very little in a one-time reading.  That's why
he's not doing anything until you get another reading in December.  Only
then will he/you be able to tell weather there is a pattern.

If possible, relax.  You know nothing more now than you did on August 28.

Yeah, I know.

I guess I'm going to have to really gear myself up for bad news since the
only time I did that I got good news (my first post-op PSA test results).
Every other time I've gone to a meeting or have a chit-chat with the
urologist, I have not been prepared for the news.

I did get a copy of the pathology report from the examination of my then
recently deceased prostate. My first reading of it sure as hell didn't give
me any feeling of comfort. Mind you with all the medical garble-farb I'm
probably misreading it totally.

I assume that someone out there knows what words to look for - either good
or bad?

Charlie.
