From what I've read, there is no connection.

Hi Ben...I've never seen anything suggesting that PCa may cause
prostatitis.  On the other hand, there has been considerable scientific
speculation about repetitive prostatitis causing PCa.  It seems that
inflammation (stones, etc.) or infection play a role in an
ever-widening variety of illnesses...Best wishes and good health, Ron

(ka-snip)

This is an example of the kind of post (I call it posting in a vacuum) that
drives me bonkers.

To what is Ben responding? What did the previous poster write? Who is it?
When was the post published?

In the name of Heaven, people, when you respond to a post, CITE IT! Sorry
to shout, but I'm feeling very annoyed by people who seem to think that,
notwithstanding that they are posting to a public forum, only they and
their correspondent are participating. They know who they are.

I now yield the floor to those who claim that anything goes, however rude
and inconsiderate, and that those of us who protest this abuse are somehow
trying to censor the rude and inconsiderate. On the contrary, we are (or I
am) trying -- against the odds -- to establish a sense of comity, however
hopeless appears the task.

(stifle the rest of the rant)

Regards,

Steve J

together. Often the very young, the untraveled, the naive, the
unsophisticated deplore these formalities as 'empty, 'meaningless,' or
'dishonest,' and scorn to use them. No matter how 'pure' their motives,
they thereby throw sand into machinery that does not work too well at best."

My post was a simple question. I was not resonding to any other post.
But perhaps you didn't read the subject line: Prostate Cancer and
Prostatitis

You're absolutely right!

You probably had prostate cancer for quite a long time before it was
detected.  Prostate cancers grow very slowly.   Prostatitis tends to
come on suddently, although it can become chronic and last for a while.
A man with prostatitis will often have high PSA values, and that
could lead to a biopsy which would discover a prostate cancer which had
been there for a while.

Ben, other than the Cipro and your statement, I really don't see
anything in your posted history that indicates you had prostatitis. Did
the doctor tell you you did? I think it is unusual to have an infected,
inflamed prostate and it not be palpable or at least "tender." How was
it diagnosed? Is is not possible you picked up an infection from the
biopsy? And where did the infection in the seminal vesicle come from?
Your uro might be slanting the truth a bit.

I didn't include the prostateitis in my posted history originally
because at that time I thought that this was the wrong newsgroup for
that. I did write a daily log at that time however and I'm going to
read it and correct my posted history accordingly. Thanks Bill.

Bacically I began having pains in my pelvic bone starting  the day
after my bonescan Feb 4  04.I thought at first it had something to do
with the stuff they injected me with.
I started Casodex on Apr. 9 04 amd I was on it for 42 days.. Then Cipro
for five weeks before the pains stopped. Then of course I started the
radiation treatment for 35 days.
The June 19 Ofloxacin for infected seminal vessel was a seperate kind
of pain I think below the Pelvic in my right leg. That was during the
radiation treatment.
I've had the pain last fallin my pelvic bone. Cranberry juice got rid
of it the first time (could be coincedence I don't know.) I was
drinking  2 glasses a day since then. I got it again for the last two
weeks but very slight and have added a third glass without much effect.
I'm going to see my family doctor.
Bill - 19 Aug 2005 15:09 GMT
Ben, I'm still not getting it. At what point did a doctor say you had
prostatitis? And on what basis? Did you start the Casodex prior to your
biopsy? This group may seem a little "anal" when it comes to details
but every one sheds light on our conditions and the thinking of our
doctors.
