Hi, Howie here...due for my 3rd PSA in Sept..Had the robot prostate
surgery in Feb..so far so good. Can someone tell me of a good discussion
group about the heart ? Maybe someone here can help? I get these ?? like
extra heart beat just to the right of center chest..sometimes mild,
sometimes hurt a bit. Some days none, others maybe 30 times. And after
one or 5 of these I bloat, Burp, feel sickly and feel a slight pressure
in center chest and seems to be in back also. Since the prostate surgery
(5 holes in belly) I have grown a pot belly and it seems to push upon my
upper organs in chest. Also I still get some groin pain on right side
just below where appedix once was..another robot hole. Cardio and GP
docs say (Without testing) that th little shocks I get are palps from
the heart..SCARY but NOT TO WORRY????   I was thinking hietal hernia
(But I have no GERD), Gall bladder...? food does no bother it. Pacemaker
has been removed but leads remain. Any help appreciated, Thanks
Howie

I think that if I had your symptoms I would see another heart doctor or at
least press for some answers from your current one.  I can't believe that
heart irregularity, pressure, and sickly feeling is "normal".

As to the pot belly, glass house here, so no comment.  If you figure out a
way to get rid of the extra weight please let me know.   The most common
recommendation that I have read here is walking.  Miles, not a couple
blocks.  They say it does wonders for the body and soul.

I think you should try another cardio work up - maybe a stress test.  I
get "ectopic beats" - often interpreted by the patient as "missing
beats" and/or "palpitations".  I was told for years they are normal and
nothing to worry about.  They occured at the rate of about 2 or 3 per
minute accompanied by burping but with no pain or sense of pressure.
An episode would last anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours
and I would get an episode every few days to sometimes months between
"attacks".  About six months ago a rather severe episode triggered a
bout of atrial fibrillation which sent me to the emergency room.  The
a-fibs resolved on their own in about 90 minutes.  Conclusion (mine by
the way, not the doctors - they had no opinion on what caused it) was
high thyroid medication (been taking it for 40+ years).  All my blood
tests over the years had me at the high end of "normal" so the docs
never did anything about it.  I became sensitized to "high end of
normal" when I was told my PSA at 3.6 was perfectly normal - nothing to
worry about.  Hah - that certainly wasn't true.  Since reducing thyroid
meds (with docs permission after I discussed this with him), no a-fibs
and only a rare, single missing beat but it's only been six months so
we'll see.  The point is, your docs really should do more
investigation.  "Palps" from the heart don't cause the sickly pressure
feeling.  I would definitely look into this more.  Good luck.

Thanks Dave..I am not on any meds for anything..not even thyroid..do you
think coffee has anything to do with it? So far so good today no
palps...

Caffeine could contribute to irregular beats (palpitations?) but not
feelings of pressure and pain.  Hustle on down to a doctor.
