Hello,
My name is John Loomis
I am not a number for one thing.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer when I was 49.
That was no fun.
I am 55, and tell you I am glad the cancer has been removed, and I am still
John
I have a wonderful wife, and 2 sons.
I do not wet myself, and do get erections.
Better with a small spot of viagra..35 mgs....
PC is hard to digest.
Getting rid of the cancer is easy to digest.
I had RP
There are many options out there, seeding, do nothing, External Beam,
freezing, herbs.
I chose RP, take it out....remember you have to have a "Great Surgeon" to do
this.
If not you will never get an erection, and pee yourself..brother.
So, when you make up your mind, make sure your Doctor is not changing tires
inbetween  surgeries.....
You want a Cancer Specialist.  serious.  and not a Urologist.
Take the time to drive and find a cancer specialist in Prostate, Cancer.
My 2 words of advice.

I absolutely agree with John. There are urologists and there are urologists.
Get one that specializes in PCa!

42,

If you get a chance, check out the archives for this newsgroup.  I've been
here over 3 years, I guess.  In those years hundreds of people have come on
to register their diagnosis and every one of them have described that
initial plunge.  You're among hundreds of empathizers, if not friends.

I am not new to this group but have not visited it in some years.

I went through all that you are going through six and seven years ago
(negative biopsy followed by positive one a year later). I agonized and
researched and consulted about all the options but from the very start in the
back of my mind and at base I knew I wanted that thing out of there. All of
it. No treatment could guarantee that the PC would be totally eliminated so
that it would not come back another day. But only surgery done in time could
come close to that guarantee. So surgery it was by the Chief of Urology at
Lenox Hill Hospital. Six years later, my PSA is ZERO. I am totally continent
and have been almost from the start (unless I get drunk and that's seldom).
Potency is another matter that depends on so many factors, mostly an eager and
willing partner, which mine seldom is, that I can't address it. That I am now
74 might have something to do with it too.

Anyway, good luck in whatever you choose and know that the future is not
bleak. Just research your surgeon carefully.
