Pain in the Butt

Hi All:
I'm now 6 month post op from RLRP. I do not get erections yet, but my
doc wants me to take Levitra to start to get things going again. (Had
both nerves spared and I'm 53 in good physical condition). The problem
is when I get aroused or experience anything like an orgasm, there is a
pain or spasm where the prostate used to be. I have to get up and walk
it off sometimes. The feeling is something like a pole poked being into
your butt! Needless to say, I, for one, do not enjoy this feeling. It is
a literal pain in the butt to try to have sex. The last thing I need or
want is a 4 hour pain in the butt with the Levitra. (I have not taken
any yet). Has anyone felt the same thing? Is this all part of the
healing process??
Thanks for any info.

Never had the experience of pain from arousal or orgasm.  But, you should be
aware that Levitra or Viagra or Cialis do not make you aroused.  They help
to make blood flow to the penis if there is stimulation to arouse you.
However, given your concerns, you should discuss the situation with your
doc.

Thanks Sandy:

I'm aware of the effects/uses of the ED drugs and know that I first need
to be aroused through some kind of manual stimulation. But hey, who
wants to be aroused with the feeling of a pole up your butt for the
effort, thank you! The doc said that he was not sure what the discomfort
was about, and this doc has done over 1000+ prostatectomies and over
300+ robotic procedures. I'll have to some more research. Hopefully, the
pain will eventually go away. I can deal with the ED, and know that I
can eventually beat that too.

My uro is experienced, Walsh trained, etc., and was honest enough with me to
say that there are things that his patients report that he cannot explain.
Here we know that everyone has different experience, some with bladder
spasms, some without, some have erections while the catheter is still in
(hate to think about that - wouldn't that hurt?) and for some of us
erections are a thing of the past, etc.  So who knows?

Hi Bob...let me add...that 3 months after RRP, I have no erections but
CAN have orgasms with stimulation and the contractions sometime cause a
sensation (though not great pain) in the butt.

So...I agree that this is probably a normal thing due to the anatomical
readjustment after the prostate is gone.

Hey, that would be a good user name...

"Anatomical Readjustment"  :-)

The user could say...'just call me A.R.'

Best to all,

Ron B.

I was thinking Radical Vasectomy.

This too shall pass.... may be nerves waking up, or scar tissue breaking
down.... both are good signs!  Hang in there...

Bob:
My vote is that it is "normal".  By that I mean that I can identify with
what you have reported and I have experienced the same thing.  One benefit
of post RRP life is that the orgasm, for me at least, keeps going much
longer than before.  However, while experiencing the orgasm there is
definite pain which I associate with the "dry pumping" that is going on.  It
does hurt and is a strange combination of pain and pleasure (no, I am not
into S&M - I can do without the pain part).  I am almost two years post RRP
now, and it has not diminished.  However, in my case the
pills/MUSE/injections/pump have not really worked out, so the frequency of
using the equipment has gone down to almost nothing.  Perhaps with more use
it would get better.  I do not know.  I have not discussed this with my ED
doctor by the way.  I will see him next month, so I will try to remember to
ask about this.
   Thank you.  Good luck.

David:

Thanks for the reply. It is definitely a weird feeling. I did not read
about this experience from most on this ng. I thought that is was
something out of the norm that I should be worried about. (Once bitten
twice shy). I guess I'll have to ride it out and see how it goes!
