This is way off topic, but I know there are some folks here well versed
in computerese, so figured I would take a stab at it.  Did not mean to
offend by taking up space here with this topic.

Basically I have a Palm Pilot, "Tungsten E", that I have never really
learned to use beyond the calendar and address book.  What I am looking for
is a program that would allow me to track expenses by date and category.  We
used to have someone here who set up reports on the PC that he then uploaded
to the Exec's Palms so they could look up stuff in meetings (he was very
popular with the Big Boys).  He moved on a long time ago, but I saw that
there was more to the Palm device than what came with it stock.

So, anyone out there have any suggestions?  Let me rephrase that, any
"helpful suggestions"?

   Thank you.

David,

Your Palm has a program for finances built into it.

Tap on your main menu (house icon)
Tap on expenses and there it is

You can create several categories and the date comes standard.  It won't the
muster of a CPAs ledger, but it'll keep track of your expenses until you get
home.

Hi Steve:

I must have a different version or something.  My options under Main are
"Quick Tour", "Calendar", "Contacts", "Memos", "Note Pad", "Tasks", and
"World Clock".   I suppose I could use Note Pad, but I was looking for
something that would categorize the expenses and be uploadable to the PC.

Thank you.  Have a good weekend.

David

The best place to find all the Palm Software you could ever think of is
www.palmgear.com.

Most of it allows you to try it before you buy it. I included a link to
the expense program that was rated the best by the users ot the site,
but there are a lot of other ones you can try too..

After you click on the MAIN, go up into the upper right corner and pull down
the menu there.  Click on "ALL"

Looked at them some time ago and concluded they were just another
"yuppies' toy".

Hewlett Packard let us all down when they stopped making the HP
Palmtop Computers. I still have and use a HP200LX and even have a
working HP95LX, both running DOS, Lotus 123 and a Solver feature you
can write up your own Equations. They produced a couple of later
Palmtops that ran on Win CE and Excel, but were limited in what they
could do, so they've also been discontinued.
Thaddeus Computing still supports these, but I don't know for how
long.
I have loads of handy programs and worksheets on them I've conjured up
myself.
I'm the Dinosaur with the Magic Box :)

Anyways, I always do my "creative" Tax Return on the big 'puter.

I was a techno geek at one time, but gave it up when it because my job from
'94 through '99.

But, never wanted a PDA.  Thought the same thing as you.  But, my wife
bought one for Father's Day.  I learned how to use it and cannot imagine
having survived the last two years without it.

David have you tried their website for software cards that you can insert
into the expansion slot. I also have found some cards at my local Curcuit
City store.

try here;   www.palmone.com/us/

good luck

For some weird reason, the Expense program that Steve
refers to doesn't come with all Palm's but is available
free for all of them.

You can get it here:

http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/palmdt_4.html

Here's a commercial program with a free version:

 http://handysolution.com/hfl.htm

I haven't tried either of them.

Really?  My old Palm, my wife's Palm, my son's Palm and my Tungsten all have
it.  I'm surprised.

My old Palm VIIx came without it, even though the application was
available for that era of Palm.

I think however that the link I provided may only install a desktop
version of the Expense program - not the handheld part.
Here's a link to the handlheld part:

Many thanks to all who responded and thank you for the links.  This is month
end close week for us, and so far it is not going all that well (in other
words, normal).  I will get back on this toward the end of the week.

Thank you all again.  Have a good week.
