Have any of you had trouble with Peronies Disease. I'm about 15 months
post RP, and I have developed an upward curve in my erection. I have
used penile injections about 200 times, but have now stopped and rely
on the pills. I'nm hoping it doesen't progress.

Hi, Steve....
Yes.... I had a downward curve develop.. after using injections.  Stopped
for awhile... and it has improved.

Good luck to you!

Hi Steve: I have no experience, but if I was having a problem I would
take a hard look at using DMSO.  I know it sounds wacky.  But, I
believe that DMSO can help with a lot of things.

I have no comment about the disease but I have tried DMSO for relief from a
severe case of shingles.  My caveat concerns the odor.  For shingles I was
instructed to blend the DMSO with water in which four or five aspirin tables
had been dissolved, the idea being that the DMSO would carry the aspirin
deep into the affected area.  Whether the treatment works or not, I will
never know.  In about two days the smell was so disgusting that my wife
insisted that she or I were going to have to sleep apart.  Being with my
wife at night was of higher priority than any possible pain relief from
shingles.

Mike H, thanks for your encouraging history. I hope I spontaneously
improve like you. The real worry is that I don't know if it will get
worse. If it stay the same, that would be fine. This unintentional
"face-lift" has given me a rather youthful appearance.

OCL, thanks for the sugestion on DMSO. That is a very interesting site.
I like considering all the options, even if I don't take advantage of
them. I am somewhat tempted to try it.

David S, thanks for the advice. My uro just got back from the American
Urological Association meeting, where he went to a session on
Peyronies. He said that the latest evidence is that no one really knows
what causes it, and that all of the things that have been tried seem to
be no better than placebo. It can wax and wane, it can get better, get
worse or stay the same. He said stopping the shots was probably a good
idea. That bothers me more than the curve, because they worked so well
for me. I use the gauge #31 short needles. I used alprostadil 2.2 ug
most of the time, and 4.5 ug if I wanted to do it twice on the same
erection. Intermittently I used bimix 0.18 ml of a papaverine 30mg +
phentolamine 10mg/ml mix. I was using them 3-4 times a week because
they worked so well. That was more often than pre-op!

Ken Bland, thanks for sharing your experience with DMSO. My wife goes
nuts over smells, so that is a strike against it for me.

Typo in my last post. I had Papaverine 30 mg + phentolamine 1 mg /ml

Ken:  Were you using a high concentration of DMSO?  The
lower concentration solution (less than 70 percent) doesn't
smell as strong.  You actually can use a 10-20 percent
DMSO solution and get pretty good penetration and effect.

I mix a topical gel for friends.  I grind ibuprofen or naproxen
sodium (Aleve) in an old coffee grinder and then dissolve the
powder in 99 percent rubbing alcohol for 24 hours so that
it becomes a solution.  I pour off the liquid and dump any
residue (the coating from the pills).  Then I mix that solution
with DMSO, pure aloe vera gel, and either coconut butter
or Blue Emu gel.  But I keep the DMSO to no more than
20 percent of the total.  It penetrates well into the tissues
and can bring a lot of relief.

I used this gel on my incision sites after my laparoscopy and
I got almost instant pain relief.

First off, DMSO was extremely hard to find here where I live, only one
natural food outlet had any and only sold it to me with some reluctance
(surprising, in that it cost a little more than $15 for an 8-oz bottle).
The concentration is just about as pure as you're going to find: 99.9%.  The
bottle itself was marketed by a firm in Ghent, Kentucky, and distributed
from Scotts Valley, California.  (You see, I haven't disposed of it yet.)
There are two distinct advisory labels on the bottle that read: "WARNING May
be Unsafe, Not Approved For Human Use" and "It is unlawful to represent in
any way that this product is useful or safe to use for medicinal purposes."
Even so, I tried it, with the only directions I had at the time.  Since then
I have read that DMSO can be used under supervision as a vehicle to convey
medicine into an affected area because it penetrates the skin layers easily.
(I have also learned that I might have found DMSO at a Feed and Seed store
because it is commonly used to treat injuries to horses.)

Yes, I know that aspirin dissolves in water only slightly but it does break
up into pretty fine "crumbs" and is dispersed.  As one who many years ago
majored in chemistry I recognized that dimethyl sulfoxide just had to smell
bad, what with those methyl and sulfur components.

And really off-topic, shingles is a painful affliction.  I had a large patch
erupt down the inside of my left leg from about the groin to just above the
knee.  Three years later I still feel twinges of pain occasionally.

Hi Steve:
I would see the doctor so at least you know if you have a problem.
Maybe if caught early they can do something to at least stop the disease
from progressing.
Can I ask, what did you use for the injections?  Also, what kind of
needle?  I am using insulin syringes = tiny needle.  Does anyone know if
there is a direct relationship between the injections and Peyronnie's?
   Good luck Steve.
   Thank you.
David S.

Yup - I have. I had it before the PCa. Funny thing is, before the RP, the
erections were good, and the curve was bothersome. Post-RP erections have
come back ok, but they're not as hard, so the curve isn't as noticeable. I
guess there's my silver lining for this cloud.

There are lots of schemes for "curing" it, but I don't think any of them
works. I've read that if it doesn't spontaneously get better in a few
months that you'll just have to get used to it. There are some web sites
you could google for.

I developed peyronies about 10 years ago, and it's only got worse.  Of
course I'm 72 and had RRP about 2 1/2 years ago, so there's a lot that I
have to contend with for sex.  Like an older fried once said,  "I can
remember how, but I don't always remember why."

It started with a definite bend upward and got worse.  I attribute its
cause to the fact that my wife has a hip problem and can't spread her
legs, so my penis was under constant stress.

RRP also caused some shortening, so normal sex is out of the question.
Peyronies and RRP all together have caused me to go from about 7 inches to
about 4 1/2. Normal erections are returning now, but an erect nub is not
much good.

Good luck to you.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for your response. Did you try any treatment? I am now 52 years
old, My uro is starting me on colchicine three times a day to see if
that will help with the curve.

After I realized what was going on, I read that Vitamin E in large doses
would help.  did nothing for me that I could tell.  My uro told me about
some treatment that he had heard about, but it was very experimental.  It
was very expensive and no insurance would cover it.

Like I said before,I'm 72 and I can remember less and less about WHY?

Good luck on the colchicine. Never heard of it being used for peyronies.
I took it when I had my first gout attack about 35 years ago.  A case of
the cure being almost as bad as the disease.  I'm now on allopurinol to
keep my uric acid under control.   Haven't had a gout attack in about 5 or
6 years since I started on it.
