Got a card from my doctor with the results of my first PSA test post RP.
According to the results the reading is 0.06. Everything I've read said
it should be something like <0.02 but it's slightly higher than that.
The test was taken only 26 days post surgery so I don't know if the
results are as accurate as they should be or going to be. According to
the card my doctor noted, "Your PSA value was normal. PSA 0.06, Please
see me in three months". I guess he is satisfied so I guess I should be
also...!!!???
Although it's been 19 days since the cath was removed I have yet to
urinate without blood being in it. I don't know how long this suppose
to go on but again my doctor knows about the blood and took a culture in
case there was bacteria but apparently there isn't any since he never
got back to me on it.
Incontinence has gotten a little bit better since the cath was pulled on
April 6 but still have problems. Still taking the Viagra each day even
though I am not presently sexually active but I believe that my doctor
thinks it will help down the line more than having any effect right now.
July is my next PSA so I guess like many others will have to wait to see
if it remains as it is now goes down or goes up.

Congratulations on your undetectable PSA reading after only 30 days.

Your PSA reading is GREAT, Jack!! Time to celebrate!!! Anything less than
0.1 is great news... yours is waaaaaaaaaay below that!
Good luck with the incontinence! It takes time for things to return to
*normal*...
Take care!

Great news Jackie!
I heard yesterday about my OWN first post-op PSA.
Surgery was March 21st and the blood was drawn on April 22nd.
(33 days)
The pre-op PSA was 7.2 Gleason 7=3+4
Post op Gleason 6=3+3
Neg. Margins, no lymph node involvement, Seminal vesicle (I had only
one) clear, and nerves spared.
The nurse called and told me that it was undectable at 0.0
I was very pleased and asked what about those <0.1 or <.03 numbers we
hear about.
She told me that Dr. Catalona likes a certain type of test (it began
with a "B"...I forgot) that gives this kind of result.
I never heard of it...does anyone know?
(It may have been the method or lab type...I dunno)
I'll see him on May13th so I can ask.
I was so pleased that I peed in my pants.
Oh wait...I do that ANYWAY.
:-)
Best to all,
Ron B.

It may have been "DPC, Third Generation. ICMA method" also known as "ultrasensitive."

Great news. Sure puts that old hot spots on bone scan to rest, don't it!

Jackie,
Wonderful news on PSA. I had intermitttent tomato juice urine for about
8 weeks. Mostly after running or weight lifting. Doctor cultured it,
but it showed nothing. He predicted it woud stop and it did.

Happy to hear you good news too.
