I have probably done 1000s of kegels. Have tried different variations on
technique (where do you really squeeze!?!), frequency, intensity, etc.
And I will keep doing them. But since I have been doing them for almost
2 years, and the evening leakage has only slowed recently, I don't know
that the kegels help there. My uro thinks that kegels help with the
stress incontinence, but that healing is responsible for the rest. If
all it took were kegels, I would have been dry a long time ago.

About Kegels you asked:
"Where do you really squeeze?"
I understand.
As good as the descriptions are...I find myself wondering if I'm using
the 'right' muscles instead of the 'wrong' ones. (abdomen, thighs,
buttocks.)
I know about stopping the flow of urine while urinating (the 'right'
muscles) but when they say "now IMAGINE that you are urinating and
squeeze the same muscles"...
THAT's whee I begin to wonder.
There is a technique that I've read about (haven't tried yet) where you
slip a latex gloved finger (I'd guess the pinky :-) in the rectum and
squeeze.
Doing the proper Kegel...you will feel the finger being squeezed so
you'll know for SURE.
Did anybody try this?
I'm almost 5 weeks post-op (regular RRP) and I leak when getting out of
bed and up and down from sitting.
4 or 5 depends a day.
I feel pretty good otherwise.
Take care,

Hello Ron,
Walk.......get up and walk 2 miles......
Next day walk 4 miles.....
Keep it up!
Not to be critical, but walking does help, and kiegels also.
You know what stopping and starting mean....
You do not have to be educated......
You pee, you start, you choose to stop the pee.
It is not the butt muscle, or whatever, it is the feeling you have.
So, remember you are healed, and now need to get mister winky, not dripping.
So use depends, walk a lot, drink copious amounts of water..
Practice holding the pee.....really. Stop it! no more pee.
Then say start.....
I know, you think I am a prevert or a nut.
I am not.
I run 4 miles when I can.
Had RP in 1999 when I was 49
I get erections, and with viagra helps/
I do not pee myself either...
I am 55 now.....
Good wishes. practice, wet yourself, do not get discouraged.
You will finally come out smelling like a rose and not urine.
I know, I was there......

>From my experience, the muscle that makes your penis move, combined
with the muscle that squeezes your finger, provides the most "clench."
Before I do a heavy lift, I inform the whole gang down there, then we
clench and lift.
(Once again, this group has made me feel like I'm not alone. My docs
didn't have a clue when I asked the same questions as you have.)

Stand. Pee. Stop the stream. THOSE are your "Kegel muscles".

I.P. said:
>>Stand. Pee. Stop the stream. THOSE are your "Kegel muscles".<<
I DO understand that I.P. but it's when NOT peeing...and the
instructions say...'pretend you're peeing and tighten those muscles'
that I begin to wonder.
I'm probably doing them OK but I'd like to know for sure.
While peeing...I know for sure.
Otherwise...I try the best I can.
Maybe I wasn't good at "pretending" in grade school.
:-)
Thanks much and all the best,
Ron B.

While there is only one muscle left for continence, I don't believe
anyone can squeeze just that one muscle. Squeezing down there to stop
the stream also squeezes the anal sphincter and other muscles in the
area. Do you remember back in the old days when you could bounce your
erection up and down by squeezing and releasing those muscles? It's
all the same action and I doubt there is a wrong way or a right way.
If you can stop the stream, you're doing a Kegel (for what it's worth -
personally not a believer).

Scardino of Memorial Sloan Kettering says to make sure we relax all the
other area muscles -- butt, thighs, abs, etc. while doing Kegels (i.e., the
erection-bouncing muscles). Other books have told us to pretend we're also
pinching a hundred-dollar bill lin our butt cheeks. Those advices
contradict. But Scardino also says not to overdo, thus weaken, the muscles.
