Seeking response from any West Aussies who had HDR Brachytherapy at F
Block SCGH under Clinical Trials program RADAR 03.04

Can you please tell me if the Cost of the Urologist who does the
Cystoscopy was covered in the program, or did you have to fund it
yourself as a Private patient via HBF or equiv., or wait several
months to have it done as a Public patient under Medicare?

If you want my real email address, please respond with a request and
I'll provide it.

Hi Clarence
I had the HDR Brachytherapy there and cant recall any Cystoscopy being done
unless it was while I were out of it.
Had a Cystoscopy at Albany Hospital in sept 03 and it did'nt cost a cent.

Thanks, your'e the guy from down South. We exchanged posts late last
year.
What set the alarm bells ringing was I met the Brachy guy a couple of
wks ago and he asked me if I'd seen a certain Urologist yet and if I
was in HBF or going Public. I thought he was on about a consultation,
but the next week I asked the Program Leader re the Uro involvement
and he said he was to be at the Brachy to do a Cystoscopy to assist in
positioning the needles for the catheters.
Yesterday, another patient in Unit 2 Rad told me his Brachy had been
jigged out 2 months from June till August and he'd already signed off
to pay the Uro via HBF. (his case is a bit different to mine and he's
only 63. He was considerably pi**ed off to say the least!)
My HDRB is booked in July, so I'm wondering if I'm going to be jerked
around, Thought the whole business was covered in the Clinical Trial.
Will know next week, when I see Nurse Rosemary for another shot of
Lucrin and fill in another set of papers.

.

Hi again Clarence
I had a consult with Dr Stanley at the hospital prior to the HDR.
He's the uro involved in the trial and there was no cost.

Dr. Stanley's doing this other guy's Cystoscopy during the Brachy.
Maybe they've changed the game plan a little as the Uro for mine is a
Dr Tom Shannon, ex Hollywood Veterans Hospital.
It seems there's more Brachys to do at this time, so they're having to
outsource to make up some of the Teams, so they'd be looking for some
recovery as the Clinical Trial budget would not cover the Costs of
outsourcing.
You were lucky, but I'll know next week what's up and keep you posted.
