THE COMING CANCER BOOM

Newsweek, March 31 -- As baby boomers reach the age when prostate cancer is

most prevalent, scientists are working quickly to develop new treatments

and encourage diet changes. Dr. Johannes Vieweg of Duke, the lead

investigator of a vaccine trial, discusses "promising" results. (See second

page.)

What is meant by this statement:

"Since prostate cancer is a relatively slow-growing disease that
predominately affects older Americans, many men with the disease will
die from other causes. The five-year survival rate for those diagnosed
at any stage is 98 percent. But after 10 years, the survival rate drops
to 84 percent, and the 15-year survival rate is 56 percent, according
to the Prostate Cancer Foundation."

Does this mean the cancer killed them or a perhaps something else?
