I have PC and need to choose a surgeon in the Boston area for RRP. I
know of a few but the search process is overwhelming. I have seen Dr.
Loughlin at BWH (looks good) and Dr. Libertino at Lahey Clinic has been
highly recommended. Does anyone know of Dr. LaFontaine at Mt. Auburn in
Cambridge?

Any help here is appreaciated.

My husband had his surgery in NH by a surgeon trained by Dr. Menon at
Henry Ford.  We've been happy with his results, no incontinence at all,
with the exception of a problem at week 1 1/2 with an infection which the
surgeon himself dealt with at the ER.  He wanted no one else reinserting a
catheter.
Once that catheter was removed, everthing went very well.  We are almost
at 8 weeks post op.  About 2 weeks prior to surgery the surgeon sent my
husband to physical therapy to insure that he did Kegels correctly.  We
had heard nothing but good things about this surgeon prior to his surgery,
from the physical therapists to nurses. If it had to be done over again, we
would choose the same surgeon.  By the way, his surgery was 3 hours.

What was the name of your surgeon in NH?

Also, you didn't mention if he did RRP or RLRP.  I assume the latter since
he was trained by Dr. Menon.

His name was Dr. Munoz, at Manchester Urology.  And yes, it was RLRP.

I neglected to say that our NH doc had people from Brigham & Women's and
Duke come here to observe his procedure.

I used Dr. Steven Schloss at Emerson in Concord.  He came highly
recommended and was very explicit on what he would be doing and what I
could expect.  This was 9 years ago when very few docs were practicing
the nerve saving technique.  I had a Gleason score of 9 and the tumor
was termed "lethally agressive".  I've had no problems with
incontinence, but did have some erection problems the first 12-18
months.  Today, all is well.  d;o)
