For some reason, my Outlook Express gives me the following error message
when I try to read my mail.  I am able to read the newsgroups with OE just
fine.  Anyone have any ideas as to what I might do to fix this??

Thanks!

Duh..... forgot to include the error message!!

Here it is!

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.knology.net',
Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Internet is working fine.  Newsgroups with OE fine.  I have not
changed/adjusted any settings.  I have done a hard reset, and that didn't
make any difference.

Hi MH.....

I have had the same error.....it is simply on your ISP's end.  Give them a
call and see if you can get someone in tech support who knows a thing or two
about computers.....grin.  It could be server error......or any number of
things.  I don't believe it is your computer.

FWIW.....it will be gone tomorrow.  And there is probably a canned message
on your tech support line telling you there are email problems in your area.
Sh*t happens.  (G)

Cheers....Heather

Mike,

It's probably on the server end, if it persists after you speak to your IP,
here's a link to a workaround from MS
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q191687

Mike,

I believe Tom's workaround is for the server end.  You can't use
it at your end.  I just tried telnetting to port 110 at pop3.knology.net
and the connection went through.  So maybe your problem has
been fixed.

If not, call them.  You could also try emailing them if you have
a webmail somewhere that you can still use - or checking their
website to see if they have any notes about the problem.

Hello, All!!

Was still having problems this morning, so I finally called.  Took the guy a
few minutes to get me to change some settings in the mail account and it is
working.

The thing is.... I never changed any settings on my end, so I don't know
what caused the problem.  Is it possible for a virus to change email
settings??

Anyway, thanks for all who offered assistance!  Glad to be back up and
running again!

Happy Easter to all.....

Hi Mike.....

Just gremlins, usually.  And it was not likely to be a virus......not too
many new ones around these days, btw.  Mostly spyware and hijackers.....they
seem to be the wave of the future.

I have had that happen myself, which is why I suggested you call your
ISP.......they changed settings on my OE as well.  But it is still something
screwy at their end.  They won't ever admit that one tho, grin.

Happy Easter to you as well......Heather

Well I just thank god that I'm an atheist.
The telly is awash with crap, and the "second"
and digital channels are all showing Easter stuff,
ITV3 yet again showed Jesus of Nazareth!
Jesus was here in London today, just ambling
around nibbling the palms of his hands, so I asked
him what he was doing? He replied: "Just biting
my nails", then on the pitch in the park he leapt
up to head the football, I told the kids it was just
Jesus going up for the cross......................
I can remember a carpenter telling me once that
his proffession was blessed because Jesus had
also been a carpenter, I had to point out so had
Karen and look what happened to her!
