Cath out 5 days now..peeing pretty good..starting to hit the toilet now.
Not using Depends, just some soft (Viva) paper towels just in case. My
question....crease in groin where meets leg is RAW ?? I have tried to
keep dry and medicated..not working, also Gonads, Nads, Jewels, Nuts,
Balls whatever they are called seem to form a crusty surface which
flakes off and becomes normal skin then reappears, itchy also. Is all
this just Post surgery..Post Cath ????? Howie

That raw crease problem is not uncommon. I just don't know what causes it.
Medicated powder (maybe Gold Bond) might be helpful. You might want to check
to make sure you don't have a jock fungus. The fact that it is returning,
and not a one time thing, makes me think it is not something left from the
swelling you had after surgery. Moist wet spots are great fungus breeders.

I've heard of crusty before, though I personnally did not experience it.
The rawness in your crease may be from urine. Paper towels soak up the
urine. Depends and pads pull the urine away from your skin.

ditto that. the paper towel just traps the urine next to your skin. the
depends pulls it away and keeps you dry. i am almost two years post op now
and still incontinent. i have never (knock wood) had any skin problems. i
would try the depends and see if that helps. and as Bev said, i would also
be concerned about a fungus. you may need to see your doc about that.
Good Luck!

If Howie's rawness (groin crease, etc.) indeed has a fungal
component...and after checking with the doc...has anyone used Cruex or
the like?
It used to be SO great because it was a spray-on powder which was VERY
cold and felt good.
Then it left a layer of powder behind.

Just wanted to salute you for your bravery. Incontinence is one reason I
wont have any operation there. I will have any form of chemo they say to
take but no operation. I am not as brave as you are, obviously.

I'm at one pad or less per day at 19 months post-op so technically I am
still incontinent though seeing slow improvement. It really isn't a
big deal and I think the people who opt out of one treatment or another
because of a fear of incontinence are very foolish. Putting a pad on
in the morning is just one more thing I do in addition to brushing
teeth, combing hair, etc.. I'll admit to a couple of frustrating times
early on when my pad overflowed, and I also became much more conscious
of where bathrooms were but never did I feel I had made the wrong
choice because of incontinence. The dripping I have now is of no
consequence. Life is good.

As an aside, IMO it is not a good idea to use paper towels instead of
pads. Paper seems to have a negative effect on control - perhaps it's
because the control mechanism gets confused, and thinks it doesn't need
to hold back because the paper nicely wicks away the fluid in the
urenthra - ("how convenient!", it says). I learned the hard way.

How about some regular diaper ointment? Perhaps it would lubricate the
dry skin and act as a barrier to urine.
FWIW
YMMV
