Tried all kinds of straps that stick to the leg..one cost $5.00 fell
apart in a few hrs..this is for the leg bag which likes to slide down
the leg. They installed it over my knee???? and when knee bent, cath
tightend up and tugs on penis...may have to do a "MacGyver" and use Duct
tape, chicken wire, coat hangers, gum etc ?..just have to make the best
of it for a week or so ? Howie

I stole some of that inch-wide tape from the hospital. It worked great.

Howie,
I never transitioned to the leg bag. I just kept on using the hospital
bag until doc removed the cath at 10 days. I got the warmup pants that
zipped up the outseam and there was plenty of room inside for both my
leg and the bag. Hung it (the bag) with a tie from my bathrobe but
anything similar would have worked as well.
At night the bag just sat in a pail next to the bed or recliner.
Not a problem, never wound up yanking on Mr. Happy (who wasn't very
along about that time<g>)and it's all now just a distant memory of
almost five years past.
Coming up on the fifth anniversary of my RRP and still looking for a PSA
reading. Any PSA reading. Doc can't seem to come up with anything
other than <0.10. Less IS more<g>

LOL! Ah, yes, the dreaded "turtle syndrome." I am circumcised but for
a good 2-3 weeks you sure couldn't tell it by checking out Mr. Happy.
For all the world it looked as if I'd grown a new foreskin.
Just goes to show how smart that little head can be. Would you stick
your head out again if somebody did a RRP on you last time you did so?
It "grows" back as it heals.
Not sure what you're referring to about the crusty jewels. They gave me
(and just about everyone else on this list who's commented on the
issue) some ointment - Bactricin? or something similar - to coat the
catheter and the head of the penis to prevent infection of the urethra
and bladder from the catheter.
Never noticed any "crusties" on the scrotum though but we're all
different. They may have used something to sterilize that area that
didn't agree with you. Best to check with your doc if becomes
troublesome or results in open sores or cracks in the skin.

I did PRECISELY the same for the week that I had a catheter.
I stuck with the "big bag", never used the leg bag and built an over the
shoulder holder using a bathrobe belt and kept the big bag in a bucket when
I slept or sat and under the warm-up pants when walking.

Suggestions:
Try cargo pants.
Use a waist belt and a hanger strap of some sort.
As I tell my dog, "Sit!".
Carry the bag in its night bucket. That was by far my easiest solution.
Quit using that dang 5-gallon bag.

I had relatively few problems with the leg bag. I had the short catheter
taped to the inside of my thigh to prevent pulling on it. The leg bag I was
given when I left the hospital had adjustable elastic (rubberized) straps on
each end with snaps. Changing from the night bag to the leg bag was simple
to do, and I looked forward to being unchained from that night bag, that had
to be carried around, to the relative freedom of the leg bag. To empty the
leg bag (unfortunately every couple of hours) I just unsnapped the lower
elastic support and pulled the plug to empty the contents into the commode.
IIRC, the top strap went around the thigh above the knee, and the lower
strap just below the knee. By wearing the bag on the inside of the leg, it
just bent when I flexed my knee. I tried not to let it get so full that it
became too heavy and cumbersome.

I had my cath almost 3 weeks so I got to be quite an expert on these
things. I made great use of the leg bag; I went out in public, even to
the local watering hole, and no one knew a thing. My leg bag attached
only w/ elastic straps and, yes, as the bag fills up and gets heavy, it
tends to sag and slide down. Try to empty it before it gets too heavy.
It definitely should NOT be above your knee - it's for your shin.
My solution to dragging the large bag around was simple and free. I
took a wire coat hanger, straightened it out, hooked the hook end to
the bag handle, and usually just carried it around. The length was just
right. As I stood at the counter while preparing meals, I just hung the
looped end on a drawer pull. For hands-free use, just put a belt
through the looped end and let it hang.

Bill,
I only had the darn'd thing for two days following seeding in June and the
"REAL USE of a wire coathanger comes to mind quickly (works great as a
hanger from the shower bar too ; )) Just be sure that the tube doesn't catch
on any drawer pulls or knobs on your way out of the bathroom. That can be a
real eye opener that you'd rather miss.

I used safety pins to attach them directly to my underwear (briefs in
my case). That kept it extremeley secure for all the walking I did. It
also kept it high enough that I was able to wear knee length shorts
around town (as it was in July). The only time I deviated form that
course was when I took my daughter to the airport to see her off on her
summer trip. I left the safety pins in the car as I didn't really want
to have the lights go off in the metal detector and get strip searched
-:) The straps did not work nearly as well as the safety pins...
