It is with great regret that I forgot to mention our dear departed friend's,
Maynard Berkowitz, passing on January 18th, 2004. Berky helped many of us
who were diagnosed in the late 90s to mid-2003 or so. It seems appropriate
to mention his almost indomitable spirit.

Hello Steve, I saved all or many posts from 1999 thru now.
I spoke a lot with Maynard, the warrior. He helped me....
Here is one of many posts I saved.
John,
Sadly, I will not be here forever. As a warrior, per my signature, I will
fight this thing as long as I can. When this trial stops working, I will
seek out another, and then another and so on. It doesn't take guts, it does
take a desire to stave off the disease for as long as possible.
What I have is not curable by any standard treatment. If there is a cure to
be found, it will be in clinical trials. I am particularly interested in
virus trials, immune system boosters, and cell modification trials. They
seem to have the most potential. Chemotherapy trials is just more of the
same old thing. I would also consider a Phase II trial on antiangiogenesis
trials. All this said, there is a time for chemotherapy, but I'm not there
yet.
I would encourage anyone else that is in the same boat as I am to do
likewise.
Berky the Warrior
Folie ^ Deux
With my regards to Maynard, he is looking down at us, and seeing if we have
followed his example.
Peace.....John Loomis

If wealth was measured in the number of friends we have Berky would have
been considered a very wealthy man. It was PC that brought us together but
somehow we managed to stuff a whole lifetime of friendship into a few very
short years. I still can't think about his passing without dissolving into
tears.
