Is  all the rumblings in the lower parts normal after the Robotic
Prostate surgery? Is it normal to have very little PUSH when  moving
bowels > Stool must be kept very soft ?? Thanks.   Howie

I was given stool softeners - you don't want to be pushing too hard after the surgery.

I had regular RRP, not robotic laparascopic. Both symptoms were normal for
me. In fact, they continually checked me for bowel sounds to insure my
bowels were awake and active before I could leave the hospital. Took stool
softeners after I got home.

========hi howie - you were cleaned out before surgery to prevent the
possibility of infection in case they perforate the colon wall.  now,
your intestines and bowels are trying to get back to what they do best -
process food.

they will make all the sounds and that is what the medical staff is
checking for.  and it pleases them very much to hear the loud crackling
sound a gas pass for the same reason.

i would advise you not to push on your BM's.  it is very important not
to.  the reason is because the prostate makes up one side of the wall of
the colon in that area and the body is going to have to adjust for this.
so pushing during the BM could cause damage and hence the stools
softeners too.

Ask your Doctor or someone on his staff.  Each person is different.

hi howie - i'm surprised they didn't give a two week supply of stool
softeners.  they are the same type you buy over the counter at the drug
store.  but you definitely should be taking them.  the last time you
need right now is a BM where you have to strain or what i call a "pop a
vein in your forehead type BM"

as far as foods, i would have to say just common sense.  the last thing
you would want to eat would be foods known to causes problems of
bounding you up such as cheese type products, etc.
