Age: 60; PSA 3 or so for the past several years,
On 5/04 jump in PSA to 12
Prostrate cancer diagnosed with a Gleason score 4+3=7
Cryo surgery 8/04 with a post 4 month PSA now less than 1.

My problems started immediately after the operation with a retention and a
painful low voiding problem.   Emergency room and doctor visits were needed
to re-install and then remove a catheter for the next few months. In
November  I still had the same problems with a low voiding amounts;
frequency/urgency problems; bladder infections; bladder spasms and painful
voiding.

Dynamic testing in Dec found that my bladder would never completely empty
and was always left half full. This same test showed that my bladder
pressure was two to three times what it should be.

A TURP operation was scheduled during the latter part of December 2004. No
major obstructions were found other than a small amount of debris and the
need for the removal of dead tissue. The next day at the hospital the
catheter was removed and I was allowed to go home. Initial voiding at the
hospital was normal.

Voiding problems started after I got home and proceeded to get worse with
two separate bladder infections. I am now at wits end with the same problems
that I had prior to my last operation. I was told that 10% to 15% of
patients with Cryo surgery could have similar problems. I am hopeful that my
problems can be corrected.

I would appreciate it if anyone that may have encountered similar problems
to let me know if or how they were resolved.

I went with an RRP and have three months later had zero bladder
problems. I was leery of cryosurgery based on a lot of negative
feedback from people. Yes, an RRP requires a month to recover and is
not pleasant, but the recovery seems much more predictible.
