It's been over 2 months since I had my RRP. Two weeks after the catheter
came out (2 weeks after the surgery), I could not urinate. The uro had to
put a catheter back in for 1 more week. He said the incision where the
ureatha and the bladder were reconnected had swollen. That was about 4
weeks ago. Lately
I've noticed a difference when I pee. The last several days, its been
coming out slow and messy like. Not a good stream as before, but very slow.
Is there a reason for this? After last month when I had to have the
catheter put back in, I've been very paranoid about having that problem come
back. I will se my uro the end of Jan for my 1st post op psa test. I
will ask him then about my slow pee issue. Maybe by then it will go
away and I will be peeing like a champ.
Has anyone else had this problem after surgery? I'm concerned that I might
require more surgery to correct this problem.

Better check with the doc. Some of our reconnections between the bladder
and urethra develop scar tissues which needs to be removed. You should pee
easily and quickly with a stream that would make a race horse proud ;o)
My 2 cents, really, check with the doc.

My doc said I'd pee like a ten year old and I do. I have no other
problems. Go back to your doc and get it fixed.

Might be best not to wait 2 more weeks. I would call your URO now if you are
slowing up again. Might save a trip to the ER if it suddenly comes to a
halt.

Don't wait, probablt build up of scar tissue. What you do not want is a
blockage........

I had the same problem. Soon after the catheter came out I thought I
was "overly" continent (there's a term for this which escapes me right
now) because my pee flow was not strong. One possibility is that
there's too much scar tissue at the urethra-bladdar connection. But I
asked my doc and he said to give it a little time -- we don't realize
it at first but the body is doing a LOT of healing during the first
several weeks post-op. And a weak pee stream can just be post-op
swelling that heals in a short time. And sure enough, things started to
heal and I can pee like a race horse now.
So ask your doc about it for sure, but also know that time and patience
are often what's called for.

Mike, I had a similar problem and had to go back in for a cystoscopy and
have some scar tissue removed. My concerns (fears) re extra surgery
were just the same as yours but, thankfully, unfounded. I was in the
hosp overnight and the catheter was removed the day after the procedure
before going home. That bit was unpleasant but the pleasure of peeing
like the proverbial racehorse afterwards was well worth the few seconds
of discomfort. See the doc, get it fixed and move forward.
Good luck.

I wouldn't wait one more day to call your doc up.

Mike...
I had lots of experience with your condition....do a search for bladder neck
stricture an you might find more info on the condition....Some of us scar
different, maybe too much.....this is the most probable cause ( I am not a
Doctor) for your poblem.....In my case, I had the cath in for 23 days after
RP.....2 weks after it was out, I had a slowdown of the urine stream and in
3 days it was almost down to nothing, I went in for an outpatient scar
removal (full anesthesia) and was in the hopital for 5 hours total......I
went through this episode for 5 more times ( in a period of 15 months)
before finally fixing the problem !...hope you can get it right in the
first.....

===========hi fernando - i almost think we had the same surgeon. i had my catheter
in for 22 days and then stopped up twice over the course of 5 months,
plus i had lesions inside the bladder causing me to go about every 5 to
10 minutes 24/7. the first time they did a dialation of stricture and
the second time they did the cut downs. everything is ok now but when
it's happening, you wonder if it will ever be the same.

Thanks to all who posted their advice and expierence. I get the gest from
the NG that I most likely have an issue that needs to be looked at sooner
then later. I spoke to my urologist today about my slow and spray like
peeing and I have an appointment to see him this thursday. It looks like
there is some kind of problem. Most likely its scar tissue around the
ureatha and bladder connection.
Will post to the NG what the doc says the problem is. Would sure like to
pee like a race horse again..
