I doubt seriously that you can qualify for a house loan based on your income and expenses.
If you rent a house, your rent plus utilites would probably take most of your income.
Looks like you are better off where you are

Even if each bill were just $1, unless you are a millionaire, you cannot afford a million bills.

Just a figure of speech..should have said...many medical bills...
Steve Kramer - 15 Dec 2004 07:39 GMT
I knew that.

Buying a house is something you do early in life.  Unless you have a large nest egg squirreled away somewhere, or make a lot of money on the side in addition to SSI, you're pretty much stuck where you are; IMHO.  You can double your annual income and that's the amount you can afford for a house.

Thanks Steve...Have a Merry Christmas

Sounds to me like you are living in the best location possible, Howie.
You could always check with your area Farmer's Home Rural Housing Authority
or the Housing and Urban Development.  Look for them under U.S. Government
in your local phone book.  They work with people on limited incomes who want
to own a home.  But then you would have property taxes, home insurance,
upkeep, water/sewer/garbage, electricity, phone, etc.   Seems you have
enough on your plate now, without adding all that!

Take care.... all the best to you!

Happy Holidays!

It sounds as if you already have substudized housing.  You may qualify
for Section 8 housing based on your low income.  Once you are receiving
substudized-housing allowance, you can try to find a house instead of
an apartment.

You may want to also contact the local chapter of Alliance on Aging who
may have programs or suggestions you may not be aware of to help with
resources for payments of your medical bills etc.

It's not any fun being limited with options and I wish you both all the
luck in the world.  None of us are very far from having so little.
