We saw the Doctor today.
Curt's PSA has stayed pretty stable over the last 2 months. went from 37 to
40. but is is obvious that the Hormone Suppression therapy is not working
anymore. So the decision was made to start Chemotherapy. He has been asked
to participate in a clinical study. They have 2 groups. Group 1 gets
Taxotere and Prednisone and Zometa every 3 weeks (he currently gets Zometa
each month now but for convience it will be with the chemo) Group 2 gets
Taxotere and Prednisone and Zometa every 3 weeks PLUS Medi-522 every week
(this is the investigational drug) this is an open study but is randomized
so we will know which group he is in, but the computer randomly picks, not
us. Before we begin and after every 2 cycles, he will be rescanned every 6
weeks. (Bone scan, CT. EKG, xrays)
They say that chemo isn't as horrible as it used to be. they will
premedicate him so that he won't be so nauseous, will monitor his blood
counts very closely and treat any side-effects that they can.
He hopes to have the first tests done on Monday of next week and start chemo
on Tuesday or Wednesday. wish us luck.

My thoughts and prayers are definitely going your way. Your
unrelenting support for your husband is wonderful. From one wife to

How quickly things can change. because Curt was started on Avodart in Oct,
he would have to have a 6 wk washout on that drug and there is no way he can
wait that long just taking Lupron. so it looks like it will be straight
Taxotere and Prednisone with Zometa every 3 weeks. they just called about a
half and hour ago. I haven't told him yet. but this means he can definitely
start chemo on Monday. I'll keep ya'll posted on how it goes for him.

Lorelei,
My wife works all day and I sit at this computer all day- she doesn't have time
to read newsgroups but she stays with me through four days of pneumonia at the
hospital. We appreciate you, and wish you the best of luck.
Taxotere is pretty good stuff, if you have coumadin and dextramethasone and ...
to protect you from it. That's that extra premed you mentioned.

Prayers being sent, Lori!
Please keep us posted on how Curt manages the chemo!
