Had my prostate surgery on 11/10.  My catheter was removed 2 weeks after.  I
have been recovering nicely up until a few days ago.  On 12/7 I was trying
to urinate and could not.  I tried for a few hours and finally had to called
my uro who told me to come to his office at once.  He scoped me and found
that the connection between the urethra and bladder had swelled up and
caused urinating impossible.  He had to put the catheter back in and it will
come out on Monday, 12/13.  This is very upsetting to me.  I was doing so
well up until this happened.  My uro does not seem to be very alarmed by
this setback.  He says he has seen this before and the swelling will go
down.  Has anyone else experienced or herd of this happening before?  Should
I be concerned that this condition could come back?

hi mike - it happens.  each case is different and will respond
different.  could be that when the catheter is pulled out, everything
will be fine.  maybe there will be some scarring and they might have to
do something to correct it.  it is what i call " the luck of the draw".

i've been there - done that.  if you have any concerns, just email me.

right now, you are still healing, so i wouldn't get very upset yet.  i
know it's easy to say form this end of the conversation, but given your
age, you should make a fairly fast recovery.
