After 5 cicles of chemio with Taxolo I had my RRP with "Sural Nerve
Grafting Following Radical Prostatectomy" four months ago.
RRP was mono lateral nerve sparing.Catheter has been removed after 6 days
Continence is over, I never had problem during the night and just sometimes
during the day. At the moment, a couple of drops, only if I make a big
laughter. After six weeks without erection i tried the injections of
Prostaglandina with excellent result but were so painful. Two injections
every week for one month. Then I tried pills of Vivanza and Viagra without
result. My Uro told me that I have to wait al least one year for having
some result.
I have an area of numbness on the right side of the right foot that no
cause me any problem.
Temporary, if temporary is, impotence is not easy to accept. Sometimes I
fill down, but after all, I' m still here, happy with my loving wife.
I was looking for anybody have had "Sural Nerve Grafting Following Radical
Prostatectomy".
Two PSA check after RRP
first PSA 0.06 and second 0.01

Before RRP

Stef,
I did not have the sural nerve graft, but had a similar procedure. My
right nerve was spared, and my left nerve taken. A collagen tube was
grafted in the left side, to support nerve re-growth. The operation was
only 9 days ago, so it's far to early to report any results.
I plan on posting regular updates here.

My brother-in-law did at 46. My husband was prepped for it but the doc was
able to spare both nerves. He even got an erection on the operating table.
My b-i-l said that the numb spot isn't noticeable after a year and a half.
And he's doing better with erections, but it did take over a year. Funny the
things our family shares now that PCa has been part of our lives. Give
yourself time to heal. And speaking as a wife who was 35 when my 42 yr old
(at the time) hubby was diagnosed, I'd much rather have my hubby alive and
impotent than hard and dead.

See,
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_1_1x_Nerve_Grafting_Restores_Erect
ile_Function_After_Prostatectomy.asp
(which I hope appears in full on Stef's newsreader)
If it does not, I suggest going to http://www.cancer.org then searching
for sural nerve grafting. This is the website for the American Cancer
Society.
I found it on a quick Google search, and recommend that Stef try the
same. There are many references.

Didn't work for me. After three and a half years the heel has recovered
sensation.
