Ok Simple facts-RRP October 15, age 46, small Gleason 6 tumor, nerves
spared unknown (I didn't ask) Urinary control good except stress
Incont.

Prior to Cath coming out I sensed possible erection

One week after cath out- Only one level 5 out of 10 erection(10 being
best of pre-RRP erections) (surprised)

Started in week 2 watching porn (a rare activity in past)as a way of,
as I told my wife of no longer connecting the RRP with erections.
Prior to this it would start and I would start evaluating it and lose
it. This way I was "distracted"  BTW this is a soliary enterprise
although with full blessing and knowledge of wife.  BTW short, daily if
I can, sessions so as not no overdo it, more of just a taste if you
will - 10-15 minutes

Week 3  porn with manual stimulation, small progress, if nothing
happens Ok move on, same 10-15 sesions daily if possible

Week 4- Strong reactions, can reach climax but try not to so as to (in
my mind) have some tension left over for next day (level 8 out of ten)
says wife, some good days some bad, just tring to get and maintain it

Thats where I am at, thinking about;
Lavitra/Viagra to see if I can get a 10, also think it would be good
for circulation to have and maintain a  erection for a time period
(hour?)as its been 2 months of being in a relatively relaxed state.
Don't know how it would work.

Originally thought that I might "overused or tire nerves", but now
subscribe to "use or lose" policy.

Tried "romantic evening" with wife.  Proformance anxiety and 2 glasses
of wine made it a disaster.

Self evaluation is the quickest killer of an erection I know.

Trying to look at alternatives and additional options.

Its a mind game as well as what will my body do.  Morally if porn
upsets you, don't do it and don't tell me.  I am just trying to give
myself the best possible recovery possible.  Building  on prior
positive thoughts(positive thoughts are - this is where I was
yesterday, tomorrow will be better) seems to build confidence

I'm not sure I understand just what you are doing.   It is supposed to
be true that visual stimuli don't have much effect in men who have had
RPs, but tactile stimulation works.

I would recommending trying sex as much as seems reasonabel with your
wife whether or not you have an adequate erection.   Often if you can
manage to penetrate at all, you will find the erection firming up.
Don't worry about rating your erections on a scale.   If you can't quite
manage, because of lack of confidence, or whatever, the two of you still
still try for orgasms, experimenting with what works.   You might also
look into aids such as a pump or injectins as a temporary stopgap.

Viagra may not work too well at first, but it is worth trying it
periodically.   some urologists have theair patients use it regularly in
order to help function return.  Anecdotal information seems to support
that,  but I don't know of any formal study on the subject.

All told, given the relatively short period of time from surgery,  you
are doing pretty well in this department.   so stop practicing and get
on with the sex.  Things will take care of themselves in time.

I've found that some oral stimulation from my wife helps a lot.  Viagra,
cialis and/or levitra all make me hard enough for penetration.  Not hard
enough without the meds yet.  My surgery was June 17 - I'm 47 y/o.  If your
wife's not adverse to trying oral - you may want to give it go - works for
me and feels good too... :>)

You are way way ahead of the normal curve. I would use it as much as you
can. 2-3 times a day is not out of the question manually.

While you are waiting for your natural ability to return, I recommend
that you try the shots. I found that the apprehension about sticking
myself went away completly with practice. After a while you hardly
feel it. The anxiety makes it seem worse than it is when you are just
starting out. Being able to reliably get a 100% rigid erection that
will last for at least an hour, and that feels great is more than
enough to make up for any discomfort. By the way, I started out with
Caverject Impulse. The needles are much bigger than they need to be.
Now I use gauge #31 ultrafine needles. They are about are big as a
course hair and only abour 1/4 inch long.
Using the injections, I was able to have intercourse again less than
two weeks post op. I think they also help speed up recovery. I'm 9-10
months out now, And I've gotten a lot of function back, and steady
(but slow) improvement continues. I can have intecourse with no drugs,
but it is still much better with help.
Good luck.
