I know very well that the good old days had some seriously bad
things like racial segregation, dirty politics in smoke filled rooms,
McCarthyism, and many other nasties, but in spite of knowing
all that, I couldn't help but be charmed by this web page:

Alan,
That was good, I'll share it with some of my peers.

I don't think it was the chalice.  I don't recall the difference, but there
was a vessel similar to the chalice that we were allowed to 'touch' during
the Mass.  But, I don't recall the name of it.  Of course we were allowed to
carry and use the patent and cruets, which, when you think about it, aren't
much different considering their purpose.  And, I can remember moving the
chalice around before or after mass, but not on the altar during mass.

It's hard to believe that at one time in my life, I would server 6:00 a.m.
Mass, sing the the choir at the 9 a.m. Mass, then set up, usher at and take
down the 10:30 a.m. guitar Mass in the gym.

Cruets.   I had forgotten about those.  As I think about it I seem to
remember being quite happy back then.  Very naive and sheltered, but
happy.  Wonder where that feeling went?

One Mass a day was enough for me.  Sounds like you were an
overachiever Steve.   Did you ever give serious thought to becoming a
priest?   In eighth grade I had the pen in my hand but just could not
sign the paper.  Wonder what would have happened if I had???  Just
another can't look back like RRP.  Make the decision and move ahead.

Happy Holidays!

Actually, I had thought about it for quite some time.  But, then came high
school.  First, I found religious education in high school meant questioning
your religion, which is something from which I have yet to recover.  Second,
girls.  Third, Marine Aviator took over as Number 1 on my list of things to
be when I grow up.

Then, came adulthood.  I was accepted at Annapolis, but Marines were out
(too tall, they said).  Then Air Force Academy, but they said I couldn't fly
(colorblind).  So, priesthood was back to being an option.  But, then there
was that 5'3", 117 pound girl with 36-24-36 measurements and brown hair
almost to her waist....

Let's just say the priesthood lost out.

Can't forget about Fizzies that you could pop into a glass of water, and
after a few minutes have a carbonated treat.

how many remember the original flavor of the creme filling of the
twinkie?   ......banana..........and they were gooooooodd.....

or how about the original 6 oz. bottle coke that cost a whole nickel,
that when you took a drink, the fizz might go up into the back of your
nose and give you that burning feeling.
