I have posted periodically:
Here's the story: Found PSA to be 8 during a physical in May 04.  Positive
biopsy so had LRRP Aug 25th.  That went pretty well.  I was able to walk
right away.  Incontinence under control mostly. But the margins were
positive near the Urethra.  Also Gleason upgraded to 9 (was 6 from biopsy)
post Op PSA .2.  Started IMRT on Oct 1.  Finished today.

The two major side effects from radiation were incontinence got worst and
seriously bad hemorrhoids.  Otherwise I have not felt too bad.  I have had
some bowel irritation.  I have managed to keep riding my bike twice a week
and coaching the kids at soccer.  Hopefully the hemorrhoids will get better
now that the radiation is over.  Man, that has been a real problem.
Incontinence wise, I'm back to using 1 pad/day.  I was able to go without
until the last two weeks of radiation.  Compared to some this doesn't seem
too bad.

Can any of you relate experience with hemorrhoids?

I had palladium seed implants on July 14 and ended up with hemorrhoids
too. Never had them before the procedure. Mine have gotten a little
better and I've tried several mail order 'cures' but so far nothing has
worked.  Fortunately for me the don't bother me too much at the current
time but they are annoying to say the least.  I take lots of fiber
supplements to keep things running smoothly and keep irritation down. My
uro suggested that I wait for at least 9 months before consulting
another doctor to see if they resolve now that radiation is over and
give myself a chance to heal.

I got hemorrhoids after a particular brutal digital rectal exam
and they stayed with me and got worse over the course of
radiation treatment.  After treatment was over they got better
slowly.  Within a couple of months they were gone.

My recommendations are just the usual ones:  Keep the
anus as clean as possible, but don't irritate it with rubbing
or too much soap.  Use lots and lots of hemorrhoid ointment.
Put it on at night and at least several times during the day.
Get a doughnut cushion and use it on your chair and your
car.

I used a Preparation H type solution, which is mostly vaseline.
The idea is to keep the hemorrhoids coated so that they
don't get rubbed and irritated either by feces or by normal
rubbing when you walk or sit.  The ointment both made
things feel better, hurting and itching less, and protected
the tissues so they had more chance to heal.

Good luck.

Yessir!  Had them just before I started EBRT and no matter what I did, they
never got a bit better until I was finished.  Even then, it was months
before they healed.

I had 42 IMRT ending in early June. Also had major hemmoroid and bowel
problems. I tried some of the Hemmeroid creams and the Dr gave me a
prescription for some foam which was expensive as heck and din't do much
good. After a little research I developed *Olfart's Butt Salve* which seemed
to work very well. Get a tube of 1% Hydrocortisone Cream and a tube of
Triple Antibiotic Ointment. Mix equal parts together - I used a plastic film
canister and apply to *affected area*
The trick it getting the area clean first. A hot shower or between showers
use  moistened Baby Wipes - then applt the cream. I still have occaissional
problems after 6 months but have seen a hugh improvement.
The other side effect is irregular bowel movements - 4 or 5 a day - anytime
day or night. I guess I will always have this. It's just an annoyance, but I
sure miss the one big one in the morning that got me through the day.
The bike riding may be adding to your discomfort due to pressure causing
irritation. Good Luck
