I had nerve spareing RRP on the 13 October, one week later I strained
while constipated and issued blood from my catheter. The bleeding
stopped after 12 days and I had the catheter removed yesterday, I have
virtually NO control over my urine. Doc says i probably strained a
stitch, causing some 'odema' (swelling) and it will eventually settle
down.
I was going great till the straining event. My surgeon is a top guy
and I feel stupid for causing myself such a problem.
My wife is being very supportive, but I can't help feeling very
depressed.
Since the catherter came out yesterday, I am back to having a little
blood in my freeflowing urine, is this ever going to
improve???????????????????

Yes, it will improve.  You've had major surgery - time will improve things.

Your "top" guy should have told you that you will have no control over your
urine for up to days.  Then, you will have some control, most mostly lying
down.  Eventually, you are likely to have full control.  It's gradual.  I
took almost two months before switching from Depends to pads and almost six
months before tossing the pads.

You may have caused the blood, but that's not a big problem.

I had no control at first.  At my wife's suggestion I kept the urinal
that they gave me at the hospital next to the bed.  When I got up I
held it over the penis to catch the urine as I walked to the bathroom.
That only lasted a week or so.  At first I used the big depends, most
absorbant, but after a couple weeks I quit using them because the
plastic made me sweat and I felt wet all the time.  I started using
the Depends Guards and found that they did the job just fine.  For
those you need jockey shorts though, boxers will not work.  It took me
six months to get down from 4-5 pads per day to 1-2, which is where I
am still and where it looks like I will stay.

Good luck.  Watch the blood.  If it keeps up for more than a few days
call your doctor and see what he says.  My phone calls always came
back that what I was experiencing was "normal".

Watch out for depression.  Don't let yourself fall into a funk.
Things will get better.  It just takes time.

Thank you.

You are doing Great.  I have no experience with seeds, but here is my
experience with some blood and incontenence.

I had a similar experience about 3 weeks after surgery.  Everything
was going good and it felt good having a strong stream back.  One
night I lasted all night without getting up, in the morning I went to
the backroom with a VERY full bladder.  That strong stream with such a
full bladder I started passing a little pink.  A couple days later the
pink was gone.  My URO said I probably passed a scab from the repair.
I used about 3 womens panty pads per day stuck to my briefs.  The
store brand is a LOT cheaper than going with "DEPEND" brand, if you
can put your pride behind you and just say, a pad is a pad.  At about
2 months I was doing the Light Days pads maybe 2 a day.  Then from 4 -
8 months it was 1 pad per day.  8 months I was finally dry.

.............................................

Well, it's 4 days since I had the catheter out, I got up to pee 4
times last night and had a good stream with no blood! I only used 2
pads all night and they  were hardly wet.
In fact I'm only leaking now when I sneeze, cough or move suddenly
with out concentrating on tightening my muscles.
So , I feel I have come a very long way in 4 days.
Thanks for the encouraging words, guys.
