Center of target should be (<0.01   .......... <0.1)  Like a bulls eye.
Everytime we get stuck we throw our darts......
Hopefully they hit that mark......

Anyway, we all anticipate PSA, and so do I......
Least we don't need a DRE, or a biopsy.......

Good wishes to all of you,  I am awaiting patiently my 5 year PSA.  I live
in a small town, and the big city is 200 miles away.  I get my blood test
here in the little town, and wait for a month to get results sent back from
my Dr. in the Big City!
I do not mind that.......It comes with the territory, so to speek.......No
Hiways, some neighbors, lots of trees, and deer, racoons, bear, skunk,
fox.....
Have a nice labor day, practice kiegels, exersize willy, walk, and smell the
roses.
John Loomis, so far a survivor.........

Good luck on the big 5!  Supposedly, if you get a <.1, you're officially
cured!

How do you get that info?
I am cured after the big 5?
I would hope so, but never saw that in print.
Just checking.  I always want to raddle the pot!
John Loomis, thanks for the good luck.  I should buy a lottery.....
You are all my friends.

Hi John,

I've seen it stated several times that 5 years with PSA <.1 is considered
cured.

I'll see if I can find the references.  DO celebrate!

Couldn't be Toronto.  He didn't mention the moose and Polar Bears that
wander the streets. :)

I was told 2 years of zero PSA and you're cured.

But you never have zero PSA- your adrenals produce some PSA!

I've read this ("adrenals produce some PSA..") many times here but am
confused.

The adrenal glands *do* produce 5% to 10% of testosterone -- the testes
produce the rest.  But I have yet to find any evidence that adrenals
directly produce PSA.

After a RRP of LRP the body continues to produce testosterone generally at
the same level. Whether it's produced by the testes or adrenal glands would
seem to be irrelevant.

Can someone help me understand this one.

Thanks

Wasn't there a guy on this newsgroup about a year ago who reported a
recurrence after nine years?  After 5 years your chances of recurrence
are pretty small but I don't think they ever hit zero.

My recurrence became apparent eleven years after EBRT.

My Dr. said 5 years for watching PSA and you are curred.  But Larry
kind of blew that out of the water.  11 years?? wow.
I guess we will continue to live with this time bomb for the rest of
our lives.

A person with another kind of cancer (lymphoma) would say, when asked if his
treatments had cured him of the cancer, "I guess I'll know for sure I'm
cured of this cancer when I die of something else." I think we're not too
much different, in the final analysis.

Life is a gamble.  If you go 5 years with an "undetectable" PSA, the
probability of recurrence is rather low.  Live as if you are cured.  Life
insurance at our age is too expensive, anyway.  ;-}

I do not know if it was the same poster, but one said that there is an 80%
chance of cure once you've made it 5 years.  Seems to me that person never
gave a 100% standard.  I think doctors figure 15 years is about right, but
are tentative.  It's hard to get good 15-year data on a disease that
typically strikes within 10 years of the average male's lifespan.
