Just got hope from City of Hope. LRP was Tuesday noon. a shade over 3 hrs.
Doc said it went great. He was very enthusiastic in fact. The most pain
has been from sitting on my butt. I'll have the path report on Monday
evening but here's hoping for the best. One good sign was a semi erection
during a movie last night. I'm gonna stay away from racy films until the
catheter comes out. Oooch

Congratulations, Bob, on both events!
Re erection: Talk about your good news/bad news!
Expect to see good news in the path report, and stick with PG movies,
okay?

Hi, Bob...
Had my LRP 21 months ago at age 51. My PSAs since have been undetectable.
I wish you a speedy recovery!
Take care!

Excellent
Please do keep us posted as you go through recovery and, when appropriate,
chime in when you see posts warning others away from LRP's based on 7+ hours
in surgery!
They have come a long way in a short time with this procedure.
My LRP was 3 years ago and indeed WAS on the order of 6 hours or so but the
same urologist completes it in about 3 hours now, sparing both nerves (a
time consuming part of the procedure).
Don't rush the recovery too much, but do work at regaining your strength,
urinary control, erectile function and stamina, paying attention when your
body tells you to back off and rest.

One of the things that concerned me was the reported duration of the
surgery. Dr, Kowachi assured me that it would be under 4 hrs including set
up time and he was right.
There is a conf this week at UCLA I think where Kowachi is presenting.
Based on my experience to date and that of my roomate at the hospital 3-4
hrs seems std today. At least at City of Hope.
One added note: I am a mechanical engineer. I have designed some fairly
sophisticated robotic equipment for space applications but man, That control
Rm for the surgery was cool! They put me to sellp too soon. I am gonna
have to ask for some time to look it over.
