thanks palmer, i had over 600 e-mails in my box, mostly junk...i will
have my eighteenth month psa test in november and of course will
continue to update the group....proton treatment has been getting a lot
of national news coverage since the release of the 10 year study,,,,,for
early stage pc and my situation, it was the best treatment choice.

Keith,
I was offline for an extended period and am interested in your psa
results from pre-proton to the present, also side effects , if any.
Thanks.

Hi Keith...Your comment that proton treatment was the best treatment
choice for early stage PCa caught my attention. Could you elaborate a
bit and explain the basis for the comment? I've only seen the
abstract of the Loma linda study (Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys. 2004
Jun 1;59(2):348-52), but in it they claim a 10-year biochemical
disease-free survival rate of 90% for men with initial PSA =< 4.0
ng/ml. In the Hopkins RRP study (J. Urol., Vol. 169, 517523,
February 2003) a BDFS rate >= 97% is estimated at 10-years for
low-risk men (T1c, PSA =< 4.0 ng/ml, GS<7). Do you know whether the
LL study used the ASTRO defintion of failure or PSA > 0.2 ng/ml as the
failure point? If they used the ASTRO defintion, then, from the work
of Critz and Zincke, the LL result should be decremented by at least 5
more points to accurately compare it to the Hopkins results which use
the PSA > 0.2 ng/ml defintion of failure...Best wishes and good
health, Ron

RON-what i meant was "proton treatment was the best choice for me in my
early stage and my situation."
